I am disgusted by this. I don’t care what they do in Tonga, this is New Zealand. I shall be making suitable enquiries...

Perhaps you would be so kind to explain the legal difference between a pet dog and a pet cow, according to New Zealand law?

Obviously that is a piece of research that I will need to do, as a part of my “making suitable enquiries.” There are several acts I will need to wade thru — this isn’t my job, I’m supposed to look after people and trust that the RNZSPCA looks after animals properly.

I donate to the RNZSPCA fairly frequently. I would expect them to be able to prosecute somebody for killing, cooking and eating their pet dog or pet cat. Commonsense says so.

If they cannot do so because the Law does not allow them to prosecute, then IMO they have been wasting my donations in acting as effective animal advocates. Law advocacy is one of their key responsibilities.

Either way they will be hearing from me.
