There's a lot of important issues facing America at the moment.
The biggest issue, judging by the amount of noise, is the fact the First Lady made the un-president-ed step of wearing shorts on vacations.
However, no-one seems to be making practical suggestions for what Michelle Obama should have worn on a hike through the hot, dusty Grand Canyon. Short trip: Michelle steps off the plane, protected by some formally-clad, and presumably baking, guards
In an outcry which (almost) overshadows the the debate over the U.S. healthcare system, critics came out en masse to condemn Michelle's choice of clothing.
A search for 'Michelle Obama shorts' became one of Google New's hot topics, with various headlines proclaiming the shorts to be 'hideous'.
However, there were many voices ready to defend the First Lady.
One commentator for the LA Times wrote: 'Think about this for a minute. What should she have worn to the Grand Canyon? A tweed pantsuit? A ballgown? What do you wear on your summer vacation?

Yep. There is a big difference in summer attire in America and summer attire in the UK.
Would that be felony possession of crack with intent to distribute?
C’mon folks, there are shorts you wear in public and there are shorts you wear when you’re slobbin’ - and don’t we pay enough taxes to support her and her “staff” to show her the difference? And someone needs to point out these “choices” to all the fashion “experts” who swoon over her fashion sense...just disgusting....
Of all the silly things to complain about...
Who are these shorts critics everyone keeps talking about? All I’ve seen
are people defending Michelle about the shorts? Seems like it is made
up to make Michelle’s critics seem churlish and unfair.
Bingo. You have hit the heart of the matter. Shorts do not have to look “slobby.” Nice, tasteful, tailored shorts with sleeveless top and matching short-sleeved overshirt would have been lovely and just as comfortable and cool. Looking like she just got out of a gym is tacky. If they wanted to slob, then they should have shooed the cameras away.
NOt if she's on official business - which means she's representing the Off ice of the FLOTUS -
Unless, of course, that's her private plane she's getting off of = s/
That kind of clothing is for private time =
Baby got back...
Totally agree with you. Isn’t there a new style of shorts - longer, tapered and smart looking - that are more dressy? I like them but have too fat a thigh to wear them well. She has nice legs and could get away with them...or even capris. Also, I don’t know how the temp was but have been to the Gran Can and it can be cool even in the summer - no excuse for her slobbiness...and I do wish these fahionitas would stop being uncredible by fawning over her fashion sense...it’s awful and should be called as such...
@0 or 40 kilos? I should hope to shout intent to disribute.
I'm sorry. I hope you will be able to meet less affectatious females in the future.
How aout a comparison with pix of the last 5 first ladies?
“The pretentiousness and gratuitous hate on this forum is getting pathetic.”
She’s the president’s wife. She doesn’t get to look like Sally at Food Lion on Saturday morning.
If you have 26 attendants paid for by the public, you are on the public’s dime and in the public eye and had better darn well enough look the part.
That ain’t hate, it’s disrespect.
