I consistently query my kids, concerning exactly who they will be associating with when they go out. These questions are blunt and highly politically incorrect. But, they are based on the plain facts of the demographics of crime statistics.
Your questioning on "who" is good; I also concentrate on where and what time. We have two beautiful granddaughters in univ. One sophomore and one senior--UGA and U ofSoMS. They think nothing of getting on the road to or from home or a friend's alone, at 10:00 or 11:00 at night. To me, that is a very dangerous thing. If they stop for gas or a drink, people can see them. Heck, they are in danger if they stop at a light. I have told both of them if someone jumps in front of them and waves them to stop, just run them over.
