VH1 took one reality show off the air and will likely cancel another, this in the wake of a high profile murder-suicide case involving a cast member. VH1 is a unit of Viacom. Both reality shows are produced by 51 Minds Entertainment.
Ryan Alexander Jenkins was charged with the murder of Jasmine Fiore, a swimsuit model and former Playboy employee.
Fiore, Jenkins ex- wife, was found stuffed in a suitcase inside a trash bin in Orange County, Calif. Because her fingers and teeth had been removed, the authorities identified her from the serial number on her surgical breast implants.
Jenkins was a fugitive in his home country of Canada. He was found dead of an apparent suicide at a motel in Hope, British Columbia, a town east of Vancouver; this according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
VH1 pulled Megan Wants a Millionaire in which Jenkins appeared, when police first classified him as a person of interest. But the cable channel subsequently formally canceled the show. However, Jenkins also appeared on a second VH1 show, I Love Money 3, which was set to debut in January but will likely be shelved.
The murder-suicide case has reality television executives reevaluating the way in which their shows are cast. Contestants are supposed to be checked out before they are accepted for the potentially intimate reality settings, and the media exposure that frequently accompanies such shows has to be taken into consideration as well.
51 Minds apparently failed to discover that Jenkins had a prior criminal record, which included an assault conviction and misdemeanor battery charge. Normally this kind of information is revealed through a routine criminal background check.

Careful, you’ll get hooked.
Fox is saying he probably did it out of jealousy...she was running around with some other guy. Didn’t hear whether it was pre-divorce or post-divorce.
I hope not! Re:reality tv, it dawned on me that it could be what primed the younger audience for myspace, facebook etc.. I’ve not checked out facebook, but have been told that people are quite an open book on it, pictures, names and addies etc.granted, they can control who can join as friends...but wow, too much info from what I can tell. I know not all members are the same, and some are more careful...but it seems like the days of privacy are over.
Remember the first guy who had his life on internet 24/7, he never left his apartment to prove he could live and survive without ever leaving the house? He changed his name to something weird like mr dotcomguy. Not the exact name, but I did check out the website. I could go on and on. I’m sure you understand what I mean.
I guess this younger generation never heard of cement shoes.
I guess you don't watch any CSI. They identify people by serial numbers on pins/implants/joints all the time in those shows.
I have, as well as Bones and others. This is the first real life mutilation of a victim that hit every paper and news story where they made a point to mention the bit about the implants.
Fingerprints and dental records are old as the hills for ID. Now I suspect the next guy that is looking to get away with it will google "cut off fingers" and see the need to get the implants too.
Megan is better know as the girl Sharon Osborn grabbed during the reunion of “Charm School” when she insulted Ozzy. I think that is the biggest reason why she got a show of her own.
True enough. I guess not everyone watches those shows either.
I forgot about that! You are so right...
UhOh guess I gave myself away about liking some of VH1’s trash TV? LOL I told Dh that if single men watched some of these shows they would never ever want to get married. I have no idea where they find all of their psycho women!
I had to pop back in to tell you that I recorded a 2hr billboard #1 hits of the 70’s on vh1 classic. Totally fantastic. Some history behind music from radio, and a trip down memory lane. Thanks for the heads up...!! I have really enjoyed listening/watching this. So glad for dvr, can pause, rewind, finish later.. :-). PLUS it’s a nice escape from all the bad news of the day.
The other day I watched an entire show about Syd Barrett, one of the original members of Pink Floyd who went insane. And I keep hoping to catch the show Classic Albums where they talk to the people who made some of the best albums ever recorded. I want to see the one they did with Steely Dan about Aja.
