He can't have stayed in long, not and only be a 2LT. Heck, they even made me a Captain, before they booted me out (technically to inactive status, I never gave up my commission, even though they asked me to, before I went active reserve again. My Colonel called me the longest serving 1st Lt. in the USAFR. (but only at that time, Curtiss LeMay was an LT longer than I was, and he was on active duty the whole time. :)
