Articles that highlight people now being covered who formerly were not covered are counterproductive. They accentuate the concept that millions of people in America are not receiving needed medical care. They sound “mean-spirited” and reinforce the idea of people being kept from getting medical attention - thus reinforcing the idea of Obamacare as being “compassionate.”
This is not true. Show me people dying on the street! Show me women delivering babies on the street! Show me children walking around with uncorrected club feet or cleft lips and palates!
What happened in Massachusetts were mandates by the government for every person to see a primary care physician in a set period of time. Well, guess what? There were not enough primary care physicians to see all the previously uninsured, presumably healthy people in Massachusetts. Any huge change in behavior, such as every person seeing a physician every year of their life, takes a long time for supply to catch up to demand - especially if the demand is irrational.
Excellent point
And when demand for health care goes up, so does the cost!
