The usual cadre of ignorant prominent conservatives is urging us to support of Whole Foods because left-wingers are boycotting the overpriced gourmet food chain since CEO John Mackey wrote an op-ed against ObamaCare in the Wall Street Journal. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for the guy. What goes around in his store’s behavior, comes around, even in organics.

But, unlike them, I look beneath the surface of silly, shallow talking points and principle-free partisan knee-jerking. And I’m not upset that Whole Foods is being boycotted. In fact, I love it. It’s a great episode in poetic justice for a store chain that helps fund and promote jihad and anti-Semitic/anti-Israel radio programming. And now they’re getting what they deserve . . . from their own crazy ideologue.
Yes, John Mackey and his store are now getting a taste of their own medicine–the very orthodoxy they practice against Israel is now being practiced against him.
A story I broke on this site documents how Whole Foods refuses to carry Israeli olive oil. I documented how the store has, instead, chosen to carry, vigorously promote, and subsidize Palestinian olive oil made by extremists who support Islamic terrorism. The olive oil, Canaan Fair Trade olive oil, sends its profits to fund scholarships at An-Najah University (and even worse “schools”), where the majority of the student body is in HAMAS and recruits for HAMAS, and where official school displays glorify the homicide bombing of innocent civilians at Sbarro pizzeria in Jerusalem, and mock its blown-up victims.

Mackey is a libertarian. I have a hard-time believing he’s virulently anti-Israel to this degree.
I also have trouble taking Debbie Schlussel seriously.
For now, I am buying at wholefoods. I am very, very pro Israel as well.

Secret double un-boycott!
Part of the difficulty with olive trees is they produce good quality olives with little effort ~ and may be initially processed to extract the "first press" or Virgin oil with rather primitive, handbuilt equipment.
What I've heard from folks who grew up in olive country in Israel (including the West Bank), Lebanon, Syria and Greece is that once you have productive trees you guard them day and night while there's fruit on the them.
That's precisely the reason you find groves near national borders being frequented by military and paramilitary and militia-type folks at night ~ because there are already people under the trees.
You can build a house and raise a family on a handful of these incredibly productive trees.
So, yeah, I suppose buying one guy's olive oil rather than another guy's might well put a round into a different chamber in a different gun, but if the choices are to buy Spanish olive oil from industrially grown trees I suppose that's what I'll just have to do.
Sure not going to buy Italian or Sicilian olive oil ~ you KNOW who owns and protects those trees!

She sure does not take kindly to that out of the closet Christian lady who ran with McCain. Deb is a bit intolerant and overwrought.

For this Pro-Israeli, Pro-Asian consumer, I will continue to shop at Whole Foods. And I’ll be glad to give Ms. Schlussel two middle fingers while doing it.

So there were divisions that branched all the way back to olive groves in Sicily and Italy.

They each have their uses.
One of them ~ in the black bottle (no idea which origin it was) is great with witlof leaves sprinkled with fresh ground pepper from Kalimantan.
I've spent about 15 years forcing myself to learn to like olive oil. Not quite there, but I finally like sliced potatoes frie in the Spanish oil (in the big clear bottle ~ which is cheaper than any of the others).
We shop at Aldi's. German scientists ( such cards they were ) discovered that olive oil at Aldi's was "the least poisonous available on the market".
This is nuts. Mackey is certainly eccentric, but to find “Isreal Hating” in the corporate product purchasing is sand poundingly stupid.
The flagship Whole Foods store and the corporate office building in Austin were developed in conjunction with a real estate developer that happens to be Jewish. Yes, the flagship store and corporate offices of Whole Foods are owned by a Jewish real estate developer.
Mackey has worked closely with this group on several sites and never has anyone sensed a hint of “Isreal Hating”. Oh but those are just people that work with him every day, not some blogger who can’t find his favorite Olive oil. Jeesh.
It’s Israel, not Isreal.
