Boycotting the Boycotters
The Washtington Times ^ | August 23, 2009 | Andrew Breitbart

Posted on 08/25/2009 7:14:00 AM PDT by Bean74

John Mackey - the founder, CEO and marketing genius behind Whole Foods - finds himself in an organic, unsustainable mess with his carefully cultivated affluent, liberal customer base after penning an Op-Ed in the Wall Street Journal titled, “The Whole Foods Alternative to ObamaCare.”

For starters, Mr. Mackey opens with a line from known-liberal-allergen Margaret Thatcher that features the dreaded “S” word: “The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.” Then he goes on to provide eight sensible free-market solutions gleaned from his company’s well-regarded employee health care program.

Mr. Mackey, a free-market libertarian, is now at the mercy of an unforgiving grass-roots mob intent on destroying his company. More than 25,000 people have signed on to a Whole Foods boycott on Facebook.

“Whole Foods has built its brand with the dollars of deceived progressives,” the online petition reads. “Let them know your money will no longer go to support Whole Foods’ anti-union, anti-health insurance reform, right-wing activities.”

Because of its high prices, I stopped shopping at Whole Paycheck (except for stuff I just can’t find elsewhere) years ago. I may have to reconsider that policy for a while.

“Whole Foods has built its brand with the dollars of deceived progressives...”

When considering the term “progressive” from a political standpoint, “deceived” or “stupid” or other adjectives to that effect, are an essential element of its definition. Nothing new here.

We should use this thread to list the items that aren't currently being boycotted. That will be a shorter list.

brylcreem
Sanka
toothpicks
sharpie markers
little debbie apple flips
cheerwine

I think that's a pretty complete list.

Ha! These fools have no place else to go any more. They’ll be back when they can’t find their $10 per quart orange juice at Ralph’s.

“deceived progressives”
Yup, rather redundant, isn’t it?

I only went there for an occasional treat, like wild salmon, Copper River trout or artisan cheeses. Sometimes, their tofu (I’m of Chinese descent) was better than what I could find in Chinatown. Other than those items, I’m in agreement with you; too pricey.

If you want to support John mackey for being an honest man, here are some ideas.

1. Contact your local Whole Foods store manager and express your support. If you’re shopping there, let the Obama lovers who work there know you are concerned with extreme far Left tactics.

2. E mail Whole Foods at wholefoods.com.

3. John Mackey’s e mail address is: john.mackey@wholefoods.com

4. Leave a message at corporate headquarters: 512 477 5566.

5. Fax them at 512 482 7000.

Lastly, the other great reason for doing things like this is that it feels good! By expressing my opinion, I felt like I was doing something, and was a great antidote for powerlessness.

And anyway I really do love the salad bar there (not arugula though).

This boycott is going nowhere. In fact, this effort may show how impotent the lib boycott machine is.

There is a reason they have to pay people to attend town halls. No one has a passion for their cause.

I think they hire based on the number of stupid tattoos visible on a person's arms/neck. A lesser criteria seems to be hair color: Green, magenta, or any other not-of-this-world tone gets bonus points.

In the world of Whole Foods Baggers, rebellion is truly conformity.

Whole Foods has always been one of my guilty pleasures, both for the price and the politics...now, I can feel a little less guilty :)

“Ha! These fools have no place else to go any more. They’ll be back when they can’t find their $10 per quart orange juice at Ralph’s.”

They may sign a petition, but I bet anything they’re still shopping there. As for me, I may go in there a bit more often knowing that the CEO is a libertarian - AND I could actually get behind his medical plan.

Kroger (the parent company of Ralphs) supports Obama. They hosted one of his Astroturf town halls about a month ago.
