I learned the races from those replies. My reply, however, pre-dates them, and in the body of the article it says nothing. Thus my confusion. Carry on without me. ‘bye.

Don’t go away mad. There have been several articles and threads on this topic before. Most of us already knew the races involved. Blame the newspaper — they are the ones who published the article posted and who seem to be afraid to mention race.

After all, Tennessee was the original home of both Sam Houston and Davy Crockett. They just might have taken justice in their own hands, had this crime happened in the 1800s. And their descendents might try to do the same, if they get too excited. The newspaper may not want to rile the natives.
