Correction to my own post; she’s arab via various other countries.
(I was thinking about her mother-in-law, who is a Brit.)

Now, if you have a country where women hide behind burkas their entire life, they have no incentive (other than perhaps personal pride) to look beautiful, to be physically active - as the only one to see them without the Burka are family members. I don't know about the rest of the Islamic world, but in Iraqi rural areas a lot of the women do the vast majority of the work on the family farm. Sadly, a man's wife (particularly a second or third wife) is really more of an indentured servant/baby maker than a romantic life partner. And although they usually weren't dressed in a full burqa, most of the women were still covered in heavy robes while doing this work out in the scorching heat. I image that those women stay in pretty good shape.
As for their beauty, they may not have had as much primping practice as Western women, but often their natural beauty more than made up for it. A lot of the Iraqi women I saw were stunningly beautiful...olive skin, light green eyes, full lips. Simply gorgeous.
