Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, longtime Democratic senator and the patriarch of the Kennedy political family, has died after a lengthy battle with brain cancer.
The Kennedy family released a statement early Wednesday morning saying, "Edward M. Kennedy the husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle we loved so deeply died late Tuesday night at home in Hyannis Port. We've lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever. We thank everyone who gave him care and support over this last year, and everyone who stood with him for so many years in his tireless march for progress toward justice, fairness and opportunity for all. He loved this country and devoted his life to serving it. He always believed that our best days were still ahead, but it's hard to imagine any of them without him."
In recent weeks, Kennedy had received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Obama, and his younger sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, died. News came last week that the senator had sent a letter to the governor of Massachusetts, asking that he work to change the state's laws of succession to fill his Senate seat quickly through a direct appointment, rather than through a lengthier special election process. Kennedy's letter, as well as his absence from the White House Medal of Freedom ceremony and his sister's funeral, fueled speculation that his health condition was grave.
It also gives the Dems a convenient excuse when Obie's Health Scare plan dies the Death of Many Cuts. It's always better when your opponents have a graceful way to retreat. It will allow the Blue Dogs to put getting re-elected over loyalty to Da Party and drive the final stake into the heart of HR 3200.
So even though I've been trying real hard to do the Christian thing and not say anything bad about Teddy K., at least that's a couple of reasons why it's good he's dead.
Now let’s be fair. Byrd was not the Imperial Wizard, only the Grand Kleagol. Is he ailing, too?
And wasn’t it Kennedy and Carter, among others who imposed what amounted to economic sanctions against South Africa during apartied and Nelson Mandela’s release from prison?
I know I’m confused on the details, but do know the chaos in South Africa lays largely at their feet. Tons of blood on Teddy’s hands.
An Enemy of the Constitution, Domestic.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
“yet he still has a family and children who love him and will miss him.”
And, like most families with lots of money, immediately begin to quarrel about who gets what and how much.
I heard that on Fox this morning that he was "absent from the Senate", that's all I know about it.
“and hope he made amends with his Creator for supporting the deaths of over 50,000,000 unborn children.”
Wonder if that will be mentioned in the giant CATHOLIC funeral mass that will take place, with wall-to-wall Bishops and Cardinals. Nope. Guess not. Oh well, it’s all relative, doncha know. God forgives.....everyone with LOTS of money.
I'd love to see the Republicans take advantage of that and filibuster hell out of this Obamanation, just to rub their noses in it.
God Bless Ted Kennedy. As a Catholic I’ve always been impressed with his ability to focus on helping the poor and the sick, without getting tied down in the dogma.
God Bless the Great Liberal Lion.
And by the way, didn't Curtis Mayfield predict this tragedy a long time ago, singing Teddy's Dead?
So now we’ve got No. 8: He died just in time to deprive the Dems of their magic number for health scare, provided the Republicans have a little backbone.
We need just two more. Come on. Anybody with two more nice things to say about Theodore? After that, we’ve done our duty to commemorate him, and can just wait for them to bury the cad. Two more? Hello?
The Kennedy Legacy lives on in Barack Obama. Or at least that’s what Chris Matthews and the Pravda Media are saying.
We have our list! Here goes:
1. Helped elect Reagan.
2. Inspired term limits.
3. Kept Irish stereotypes alive.
4. Inspired Simpson character.
5. Gave CodeToad excuse to get some exercise.
6. Gave me cause to procrastinate money-making but tedious on-line chore.
7. Might inspire the Dems to pull another Wellstone fiasco, thereby giving hope to many that they will.
8. Died just in time to deprive Dems in Senate of magic number for pushing HR 3200.
9. Always able to focus on helping the poor.
10. Always able to focus on helping the sick.
Thank you one and all. Now they can’t say we did nothing but party over his death. So let’s say we partay!
I thought that bird was based on Tip O’Neil.
Oops. Make that eleven. There, see!
Beginning Catholic: The Anointing of the Sick: Comfort and Healing [Ecumenical]
He opened the floodgates to immigration.
He fought to keep the death tax while shielding his own wealth.
He was self-appointed head of Catholics for Abortion.
He did a menage with Chris Dodd and a waitress.
He provided great material for Rush Limbaugh comedy sketches.
Um.
No.
Most dogmatic cur ever.
Don’t know if there was much “there” to make a deathbed re-conversion. Do you think that he really authored the letter to change Massachusetts law on selecting a replacement?
