What was supposed to be a swanky Summit Avenue fundraiser for Sen. Al Franken on Thursday was abruptly canceled when Franken discovered that the host of the event served a year in prison for swindling some northern Minnesotans.
Mark Erjavec, who describes himself as an entrepreneur specializing in distressed real estate, may be a newcomer to the political scene but he is well known in the courtroom. Besides the 1997 theft by swindle conviction, the 33-year-old Erjavec has faced over $100,000 in tax liens and civil judgments. General Electric sued him for copyright infringement. His personal website has a link to what he calls "dirty laundry" litigation.
Until just a couple of days ago, Franken's staff wasn't aware of his past either, forcing them to hastily pull the plug on an event that could have proven politically embarrassing. Franken was expected to attend the evening fundraiser.

Oopsie Daisey, Al.....
You should know your base a bit better than this...
He tried to sneak one by and got busted.
Period.
Dem politics, as usual.
Franken knows that if you're going to swindle people, it's better to do it to orphans and Alzheimer's patients.

None of that should matter to any good Liberal/Socialist/Fascist.
Birds of a feather....
Why cancel? Frankin fits right in - both morally and mentally.
And Doggone It, People (like Al Franken) like him.
Franken and staff claim they didn’t know of this individual’s past. It’s a safe bet they pulled the plug only when he was exposed. Dining with delinquents when money is involved is standard liberal fare.
Yep, maybe they could find a childrens home to rip off
“Its a safe bet they pulled the plug only when he was exposed.”
Ding.
Ding.
Did I win?? Did I win??
Considering what Err Amerika did, I’m sure the Senator-Select considered this guy an amateur.
Quick, notify Obama, he needs another Czar...
Intuitive FReepers are always winners.
I have no prize for you other than a Hardy and Laurel handshake.....
;-)
Oh what a hero!!! Caught with his hands in the cookie jar he repents. Now that the swimmer is dead, I guess Franken is now the greatest senator that ever lived.
Wasn’t that “Laurel and Hardy??”
Right.
Inside humor, and all....
Since when has that ever stopped a politician?
“Quick, notify Obama, he needs another Czar...”
Oh, I am certain that Al has a post all sewed up under ZERO.
LOL, Franken probably saw Erjavec’s resume and felt there might not be enough people in the room for BOTH of them to swindle simultaneously.
