This story by Bernard Goldberg certainly takes me back to the early days of my blogging career. Shortly after the 2004 Republican convention, Mary Mapes produced a segment for 60 Minutes II that alleged that George W. Bush had manipulated his enlistment in the Texas Air National Guard to avoid serving in combat in Vietnam. The documents used by CBS, Mapes, and Dan Rather turned out to be clumsy hoaxes, which the blogosphere exposed through careful review of their substance and their form (the latter of which I played a small part in refuting, with my expertise in printing and fonts, among larger efforts from Power Line and LGF).
CBS did an internal investigation that discredited the memos and caused the network to fire Mapes. Buried in the report, however, is an admission that has not been noticed until now — which is that Mapes knew the basis of her story was an outright lie from the beginning (emphases Goldberg’s):
Until now, the controversy over the Rather/Mapes story has centered almost entirely on one issue: the legitimacy of the documents – a very important issue, indeed. But it turns out that there was another very important issue, one that goes to the very heart of what the story was about – and one that has gone virtually unnoticed. This is it: Mary Mapes knew before she put the story on the air that George W. Bush, the alleged slacker, had in fact volunteered to go to Vietnam.

Rinos and their staffs and lobbyists all make good money whether Republicans or Democats are in power. It makes little difference to them which party is in power so long as they can stay in Washington and make a lot of money and be included in that society.

I have never understood this “controversy”. I had friends in the Nat’l Guard - altho not the air guard. They had a 6 year gig - 6 years to complete a certain number of hours of service - or credits for service - I have forgotten. It was a part time service, and it took 6 years of part time service to complete. Bush was, at least at first, not part time. Flight training was full time. I’ve seen his records, and he met the hours/credit requirement several times over.
Where am I wrong? What is the controversy, if he completed more that the minimum number of hours/credits?

Actually, I’m not fighting among ourselves. I’m a conservative, I get tired of republicans blaming me for the loss by McCain. I will vote for a conservative, they (or you) can vote for whoever you want. But don’t blame me if you vote RINO and a Dummycrat wins. the RINOs always want the conservatives to compromise our principles and join them. We won’t... If they don’t like the outcome, they can join us. The reality is, most prefer Obama to a true conservative.
I voted for Sarah and the Republican ticket. Somehow I really doubt that you voted at all. Probably stayed home cause you couldn’t find someone who would tell you that you were the man with all the answers.
