Thompson torpedoed Thompson. Too much time playing the “will I or won’t I” game and too many announcements about upcoming announcements.

My thoughts as well. But lets suppose for a moment he did stay in and win the primary - the media would of did a Palin on him and his beautiful family. It would of been brutal and hard to watch. But still can you imagine a Thompson/Palin ticket in 08? What a dream

Sorry, I’ve got to disagree with you pretty strongly. Most Romney people had Fred as their #2 guy, which made sense. Both were running the most conservative campaigns of the bunch.
Fred was my #2 guy. I’ve come to like the guy even more listening to his radio show here in Nashville.
Sorry, you’re a member of the Romney Derangment Syndrome crowd. I always found the anti-Mitt bias strongest from the Thompson supporters, which never made much sense to me. I liked and continue to like Fred plenty fine—and as I said, even moreso than when he was running.

His fans should have made him a 5-alarm chili, to give him that fire in the belly that they all were talking about.
Romney’s people did the rumor thing but that is not what killed him in Iowa. The big thing is that Huckabee took Iowa. And he did it by organizing better at the grass roots level. The Huckster turned out church networks and homeschoolers who drummed up support for him and mobilized all of their friends and family. In the Iowa Cacus all you needed to do was bring your extended family with you to a precinct. For any given one you only needed to win 10 or 20 extra votes to win. So if you call up all your aunts and uncles that were not planning to go, and talk to people in your church, or local homeschool support group then you are good to go. It pisses me off off to admit it, as a homeschool grad and Fred supporter, but what won it for the Huckster in Iowa was 100% to homeschooler & church networks. My wife and I were there and voted for Fred so this is not speculation.

When you see these many sleazeballs together, you have to start looking at the person who hired them.
Nobody here knows the answer and are just feeding you their most hated candidate. So the anti-Romney folks say Rmoney. meanwhile, Huck was being a Huckster and McCain was pulling strings. who knows? What we do know is that the media is the REAL enemy because they distort these things to the benefit of their favored candidate (ie McCain).
Fred never did want it. I think that he was a closet McCainiac!

His ‘trophy wife’? Wringing their hands over how he had lymphoma and was going to die?
No, that’s right. I’m just supposed to accept your premise that people who cite the publication available record of a liberal Trojan horse charlatan like Mitt Romney are ‘haters’ who attack poor widdle Mitt with all of those personal attacks.

I’ve always had a hard time trusting Romney. From my perspective he does things thats best for Romney more than whats best for the constituents.
Do you think we made more personal attacks on Mitt than Mitt’s supporters made on Fred Thompson (and us)?

You give McCain more credit than I'm prepared to grant him.
He is known to be famously egotistic and vindictive. I could readily imagine that he somehow blames Palin for his election loss.
I can also imagine that he deeply resented the obvious fact that Palin was more popular than he.
So, yes, I can see where McCain might've condoned his staff's reprehensible actions.

This was a twofer for McCain. Hurt Fred and get Romney blamed for it.
I feel reasonably comfortable in strongly suspecting Mike Murphy now...but I could be wrong.
That is a long way from blaming any candidate. I'm no noob to campaigns, if you have "dirty tricks squad" you keep 2-3 degrees of separation from them and the candidate. The candidate might know "something" is going on, but not what and no idea who.There are things I've done that I regret. There are things I've done that were marginal, but I have no regret.
I never did anything against a conservative or even anybody claiming to be a conservative. Even the stuff I did do was legal and accurate
I just want to know who these people are...I suspect they will do the same to Palin.
There is a lot of truth in what you say...I kind of figured that going in. Still, I found some leads to other articlest...so, it was worth it.
