All Of A Sudden That 'Bad' War Is 'What War?'
IBD Editorials ^ | August 27, 2009 | VICTOR DAVIS HANSON

The anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan headed to Martha's Vineyard this week, where President Obama is vacationing. Once again she is protesting our two wars abroad.

But Sheehan is a media has-been. ABC's Charlie Gibson used to cover her anti-Bush rallies in Crawford, Texas. Now he says, with a sigh, of her recent anti-Obama efforts, "Enough already."

The war in Iraq is scarcely in the news any longer, despite the fact that 141,000 American soldiers are still protecting the fragile Iraqi democracy, and 114, as of this writing, have been lost this year in that effort.

But after the success of the surge, America suffers far fewer fatalities each month — eight in July, five in August. And former anti-war candidate Barack Obama is now president and commander in chief — with Democratic majorities in Congress.

Public opinion and media attention about Iraq were always based largely on two factors that transcended whether Americans felt the removal of Saddam Hussein was wise and necessary — or misguided and wrong.

First was the perception of costs to benefits. In May 2003, after a quick, successful American invasion, a Gallup poll revealed that 79% of the public supported the war — despite our not finding the accepted amount of chemical weapons.

By December 2008 — more than 4,000 American fatalities later and at the end of the Bush presidency — only 34%, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll, still felt the war was worth the effort.

VDH, you're great, but it's one war, not two.

Mr. Obama, what is your exit strategy?

Where are the anti-war demonstrations in all the major cities?

When will code punk call for impeachment?

In addition to the new perspective on war, ya gotta love the new spin on the economy.

Man, did they work hard to tell us the sky was falling during the Bush years and now they are celebrating everyday with headlines like, “The sky has somewhat de-excelerated in it’s rampant doubleplusgood decent into absolute hell and why folks are finding it refreshing”

The MSM spinmeisters are sickening.

Just today, while listening to Laura Ingraham on the net, the news came on and apparently the market opened lower. NBC radio news immediately shifted into “this is the correction we have been waiting for...it’s due to China...” They had the explanations all ready if the market dropped under the usurper.

The market ended up stable for the day and no one else mentioned anything about corrections or China....what a bunch of lying jokesters! It’s pathetic, it really is.

Sometimes foreigners and liberals bemoan that we did not learn the lessons of Vietnam. I would argue that we did learn lessons, we learned not to listen to those who would have us give up, to keep going and to support our troops. She is free to say what she will and we are free to ignore her.

We need another “Hussein removal”.

"VDH, you're great, but it's one war, not two. "

Bingo - One war, two fronts - actually three fronts if you include the homeland, which I do considering almost three thousand casualties have been realized on the homeland.

It’s the global jihad..the jihadis say so and I believe them. This affects Americans, Christians and Jews specifically and non-muslims in general anywhere on the globe.

His analysis is partially correct at best. Here is my analysis:

  1. The Democrats (that includes the media) went along with the war because the American people knew the meaning of the 9-11 attacks.
  2. In the meantime, they quietly focus-grouped the talking points most effective in subverting the war effort and the Commander-in-Chief.
  3. When enough time had passed, they implemented their propaganda campaign (which W and the Republicans declined to counter.)
  4. Now that their man is the Commander-in-Chief, they no longer need to subvert the war effort for their political gain.
That's it in a nutshell.

During WW2 the American People could see the progess of our Troops across the map driving back the evil.

Today the American People can see that instead of driving back the evil we are fighting to preserve it

the evil is ISLAM
