Fire Torches Homes Near L.A., Hundreds Flee

Aug. 27: A home is seen fully engulfed in flames in the Los Angeles suburb of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.
LOS ANGELES — Wildfires erupted up and down California Thursday as a late summer siege of heat and low humidity levels made conditions ripe for conflagrations.
Structures could be seen burning in the wealthy communities on the Palos Verdes Peninsula south of Los Angeles, while suburbs on the foothills to the north of the city were threatened by a slumbering fire that suddenly roared to life in the evening hours.
Dozens of homes were evacuated in Rancho Palos Verdes, Los Angeles County fire Inspector Steve Zermeno said. TV news footage showed structures on fire and at least one entirely engulfed in flames. Fire officials could not confirm if any structures or homes had been damaged or destroyed.

Tell me when there ISN’T a large wildfire in Southern California; that is news. Fox News has huge “Breaking News” on Southern California wildfires; like they never, ever happen, when they happen nearly every 2 weeks or so.

I can smell smoke from West L.A..someone on Fox 11 said that someone was smoking and threw it into the brush which caused the fire
We got four fires going on here. La Canada Flintridge, Hemet, rancho palos verdes, and there is another one near San Bernardino. LA always burns around now, its just that time of year again
Yes, it is. I was reading a local weather report (it might hit 100 degrees here in Long Beach tomorrow again, ugh), and it said SMOKE as the weather condition for tomorrow morning.
I think I can smell smoke here too.
Add Azuza-Glendora to that. It’s looking pretty good tonight. The TV coverage of the PV fire is having its usual effect, with a bunch of panicked calls from homeowners who are at no risk but are claiming their homes are on fire. It’s causing quite a bit of difficulty tonight as resources get diverted from where they’re actually needed to chase those phony reports.
