At the dawn of the Barack Obama era, the promise of hope has faded. America's public square is an angry and bitter place.
Finger pointing and yelling at town hall meetings this summer are signs of a country that's been building toward a boiling point for several years, stressed by a fast changing economy, a flood of immigration and threats at home by terrorists.
It's a land at turns frustrated and irate at a government that led them into an unpopular war, proved itself inept at helping its citizens in a disastrous hurricane, presided over an historic economic collapse, then went on a spending spree that could commit their country to decades of crushing debt.
Untold numbers of Americans seethe with anger at Obama and his fellow Democrats, resentment coupled with fear even more intense than the rage other Americans expressed just a year ago at George W. Bush and the Republicans. One telling sign: The comparisons of the president to Hitler remain the same only the face has changed from Bush to Obama.
"It's ugly," said independent pollster John Zogby. "Ugly and sad because there were many of us who felt the ugliness could be transcended this time."
Americans throughout their history have been prone to periods of anger and suspicion against one another, particularly in times of change and stress. The anti-Catholic Know-Nothings of the 1850s, the rise of the Klan in the 1870s, the Palmer Raids against leftist radicals and immigrants in the 1920s, McCarthyism in the 1950s.
This anger is more focused on the federal government, a resurgence of the hostility toward the government that started with Vietnam in the 1960s and Watergate in the 1970s, faded in the 1980s, resurfaced in the early 1990s and then faded away again.

When Rupublicans tried to immitate Democrats it was the beginning of the end. Now, DEmocrats can project upon Rupublicans and Conservatives that which is their exclusive psychosis; “love for humanity” and the earth, a la
Josef Stalin.
(To blazes with that idiotic phrase, “compassionate conservatism”. Conservatism IS compassionate!)
IMHO
Communism and Fascism are different faces of the same coin. The fundamental difference is Commies want to OWN everything, Fascists merely want to control everything while leaving it held in private hands.
Thus The 0 regime has demonstrated it is more fascist then communist in outlook.
Obama wants to immediately and absolutely crush us with so much debt, regulation and control of our lives that there will NEVER be any turning back. The complete and irreversible loss of our country is what scares us to death. The skin color of the tyrnat in the office doesn’t matter one whit.
Let’s see here: an interminable recession with record unemployment, a national debt that will destroy prosperity for a generation or two, huge new government initiatives and outright power grabs that voters didn’t even want. Yeah, I just don’t understand why everybody’s so grouchy.
We're rebelling against the CommuFascist minority rule that is taking our freedoms away. Led by an African-anti-American President, the boisterous minority, aided by a one sided Marxist MEM, are muffling dissent and trying to "transform" our beloved country to a third world hell hole in no time.
This anger will not subside unless 0b0zo and his Czars turn 180 degrees. This wishful thinking on my part is only that. Historically, Marxists, Fascists and dictators never retreat an inch. They have to be resoundly defeatd, removed and OUTLAWED.
A free country can't afford to extend its freedoms to its enemies. Case in point, Mirandaizing terrorists is giving them a license to carry on without fear of retribution.
Last but not least, the attack on the CIA ordered by an illegitimate president galls us. So far, the CIA is cowering and not leaking info to expose personnel in The Administration.
I can go on and on, but a comparison to the "dissent" and CIA/FBI leaks against the Bush administration are too numerous and well known to repeat.
I see the McClatchy journo who wrote this lame piece included the latest agitprop from the Southern Poverty Law Center about militias. Funny how the libs can’t resist working that one in. It’s like when the neighbors finally take their Christmas tree to the curb in April and all the birds have strands of tinsel woven into their nests.
“Thus The 0 regime has demonstrated it is more fascist then communist in outlook”
Good point. But I don’t think so. The Kenyan just hasn’t gotten around to seizing every business sector yet.
The outline is clear. Following the Hugo Chavez model, the Kenyan will swallow them one at a a time. DeathCare is a big gulp.
And this force was launched by the Swimmer in 1966. May he rot in hell.
“Conservatism IS compassionate!”
Conservatives needs to be blood thirsty in my humble opinion.
At least when the Kenyan becomes dictator he’ll allow golf. Hugo Chavez is seizing the golf courses in Venezuela.
Let see, the American people have seen everything they worked for their whole life, their home value and their 401ks, devalued by 25-35% since 2006. They are waking up to the fact that now, after years of struggle and sacrifice, they are forced to start almost over from scratch rebuilding their net worth. At the same time they have watched their nest eggs vanish if by magic, they have seen their job security evaporate at the same time the political media Establishment in this country is busy pushing an even more extremist big govt boondoggles on them to "Fix" what Govt broke in the 1st place.
They are dang lucky we are only ANGRY at them.
Funny how the "Hitler comparisons have remained the same, only the face has changed from Bush to Obama" doesn't quite align with reported sales of firearms and ammunition, huh? If the anger were still equally baseless, there would be no soaring ammo sales numbers.
BTW, another 2,000 rounds of .30-06 M2 Ball arrived on my doorstep yesterday, too. The FedEx driver smiled and mentioned that he'd been delivering a *lot* of those "heavy parcels" over the past months.
Yes, the writer will most certainly be called on the carpet for that comment. The eighties were wonderful decade. We had a truly great leader who was proud of his country and would never speak of moral equivalence. He recognized evil when he saw it, defeated a major recession, ended the cold war, put anti-inflationary monetary policy in place, capped government growth, rebuilt a strong defense after it had been eviscerated by his predecessor and reduced taxes and regulations leading to a 25 year growth in prosperity. Those of us old enough remember the 80s well and with a wistful longing.
Die Straße frei den braunen Bataillonen.
Die Straße frei dem Sturmabteilungsmann!
I SOOOO hope you’re right.
And the impeachment will be a thing of beauty.
Liberal spin. Let's try a little truth here:
"...stressed by a crashing economy with no recovery in sight, a flood of illegal immigrants that no one in power seems willing to stop, and the complete disregard by our elected officials as to the reality of the threats against our homes by terrorists."
There. That's better.
Well, people in McClatchy markets are angry because they have to read bad newspapers.
