We do not owe Edward kennedy unconditional forgiveness for his negligent homicide of Mary Jo Kopechne, for his complicity in the murder of millions of unborn, or for his undermining of the American military that undoubtedly cost lives from Vietnam to Afghanistan. Forgiveness requires contrition and there is no evidence that Ted, even upon his deathbed, was ever sorry for any of his sins.

there is no evidence that Ted, even upon his deathbed, was ever sorry for any of his sins. Because, he never saw them as "sins", only "shortcomings"? To acknowledge your actions as sinful requires a heart sensitive to right and wrong absolutes, first; a contrite heart (sorrow), second; and, third, a change of mind (repentance) about those very acts of sin. I cannot see into a man's heart but I can know him by his actions (his fruit). To hear what Kennedy supposedly believed concerning his church do not jibe with his actions - not just in his younger days, but up until his last acts as senator. It's between him and God, now.

He forgot his letter to Andropov during the Cold War behind Reagan’s back.

The Roman Catholic Church has lost any vestiges of honesty and deserved respect during the last six months, culminating with the Edward Kennedy funeral charade today.
When nominal Catholics ran for political office promoting blatant Pro-choice positions; and the most of the Church administration stood aside and made no comment, even in their diocesan newspapers, any moral ground held was lost. Watching the Church, represented by the Archbishop of Boston and Washington, lending their authoritative presence to the Kennedy charade today has totally sundered any respect I have had for the Church. I am knowledgeable and educated in Church history and ethics having attended a Jesuit College for four years and having believed and assented to the ethics and morals I was exposed to. No respect, no longer. I now can understand the Jewish complaints against Pope Pius XII. I can see that while he may not have supported Hitler, he did not denounce him openly; just like the Archbishops of Boston and Washington have not denounced Kennedy and the pro abortionists from the pulpits. Accommodation with Fascists and murderers, when there is freedom to denounce it, is a sin, in and of itself.
