The senator's actions in the hours and days after emerging from that pond tell us something ugly about Kennedy the man. That he got away with it tells us something ugly about American public life. That hurts because it's true.

Chappaquiddick itself was not the problem. It’s mostly the stark lack of public remorse by Teddy.I disagree. Chappaquiddick was the problem. Kennedy's behavior that day showed him to be either guilty of murder or, at the very least, negligent homicide. He never was brought to the bar in a human tribunal to answer for that event.
May God have mercy on his soul.

This funeral shows, in a nutshell, the disconnect between the media and the public. The public by and large does not truly give a damn and those who do, are not mourning his passing. It’s almost laughable.

I think “The Senator” went south and Mary Jo went north. .
Mary Jo was a hanger on, and "boiler room girl". She is in no way an angel or anything else. She was a true believer in the snake oil that Ted Kennedy sold.
Ted was screwing her, and he left her in that car to die because he didn't want to get caught cheating on his wife.
Mary Jo got her comeuppance at 29. Ted got his at 77.
