The Long-Distance Runner (Be afraid, be very afraid for 2012)

Just before Thanksgiving last year, a group of former aides to Mitt Romney convened at his salmon-colored Belmont home, many of them gathering for the first time since Romney had disbanded his presidential campaign some nine months before. Romney had invited them for a post-mortem of the election weeks earlier, the type of dispassionate assessment that the Harvard Business School alumnus so enjoyed. But over cookies, they found few of the metrics for success that Romney prized -- Republicans had been decisively thumped at all levels -- and his attention shifted from 2008 to the future.

There was a true conservative in the primaries. Pronlem was, he isn’t photogenic enough to woo the teletubby voters. Duncan Hunter would have been the perfect alternative for true conservatives. Had the Pubbies actually run a real conservative and lost, the contrast with the current affirmative action fraud in the oval office would be even more stark right now! Until the people reject the societal engineering which is hallmark of the now fascist Democrat party, America’s future remains iffy.

If she really wants to be President, why quit the job that your whole argument for the experience to be President is based upon?

And 'O' had a lot of experience?

I never said romney was a conservative. but my POINT is that romney fooled a lot of conservatives into thinking he was.

AppArently; not ENOUGH!

He'll have to 'fool' a LOT more in 2012!!!

Rather than “metrics,” Romeny ought to consider that folks just damn well don’t like what he stands for.
Which appears to be “Obama-Lite” rather than an actual ideology, and sure as hell isn’t “Conservatism.”

His daddy was a northern liberal, and he’s no different.

McCain was a lackluster RINO who should never have won the first primary. He was near the bottom of the field. Without Palin, he wouldn’t have won a handful of states.

It is my understanding that the profits distributed to each Alaskan comes from ALASKAN lands that oil companies have drilled on. How is that wrong?

I fail to see how Palin gave the media ammunition that warrants the vicious attacks on her. What did I miss?

As for her resigning, how long could your family afford to pay for lawyers to fight frivilous suits? And, I’m sure you are condemning J. Napolitano and K. Sebelius, both governors who resigned to “serve their country.” So did Palin!

However, I do like Haley Barbour....don’t know much about Riley. Neither has a chance, IMO.

Your post does highlight the fickle nature of FR opinion, as we flit from candidate to candidate, chasing after the Reagan Rainbow.

You said it perfectly, better than I've ever seen it said before.

The primaries are the real culprit.

MHG,

Was about to flame you back but that would be a bit childish. You have been around awhile, I respect that because that represents you are probably better informed than a lot of folks.

I served in the Military from ‘78 to ‘01(stayed long enough so Willy would not sign my Retirement Orders). Worked from ‘01 to ‘07 12-18hrs days, 5-7 days a week. I am still working but with the downturn I have more free time. Did not have time for Forums before, if that makes me a n00b I will wear that with pride.

Can I get your opinion on a couple things?

1. Would you agree that JFK's record and values would match up pretty well with at least a modern day Rino if not a modern day Conservative? I think it would.

2. Who has shifted farther left over the years, the Voting Adult public or Politicians, or are they about the same?

3. Has the Conservative brand been watered down with impostors since Reagan?

4. What is better long term. Compromising on a Telegenic Rino that can put out a good sound bite or hold to values and push harder for a true conservative that can jerk the country back to the right a few degrees?

5. Can we ever beat a Dem again with about 50% High School drop out rate, empty-headed Britney Spears generation coming up, a good portion of folks gladly taking entitlements, and the MSM clearly on the Dem side?

Seems to me the Republican compromisers have pulled us too far off track and it is time to draw the line, win or lose, stick to principles. Question is how can we reeducate and reengage enough of the voting public to get it done.

Palin is only 45 years old. There is no rush for her to run for President in 2012. She could afford to wait til 2024 where she would be 60 years old and acquired more experience and knowledge.

Mitt Romney is in his 60s. 2012 is now or never for him.

Romney, backstabber of Gov. Palin DURING ELECTION 2008,
will never be the GOP candidate.

It is never.

Romney could have left her alone, but that would not
be Romney would it? Romney HATES women.

Backstabber carpetbagger Romney:
"Being a Republican in Massachusetts is like being a cattle rancher at a vegetarian convention."

THE REAL DEAL on Willard "I am Myth" Romney:

"Governor Mitt Romney, who touts his conservative credentials to out-of-state Republicans,
has passed over GOP lawyers for three-quarters of the 36 judicial vacancies he has faced
,
instead tapping registered Democrats or independents -- including two gay lawyers who
have supported expanded same-sex rights, a Globe review of the nominations has found.
Of the 36 people Romney named to be judges or clerk magistrates, 23 are either registered Democrats
or unenrolled voters who have made multiple contributions to Democratic politicians
or who voted in Democratic primaries, state and local records show.
In all, he has nominated nine registered Republicans, 13 unenrolled voters,
and 14 registered Democrats."
- Boston Globe 7/25/2005

Romney Rewards one of the State's Leading Anti-Marriage Attorneys by Making him a Judge
Romney told the U.S. Senate on June 22, 2004, that the "real threat to the States is not the
constitutional amendment process, in which the states participate,
but activist judges who disregard the law and redefine marriage . . ."
Romney sounds tough but yet he had no qualms advancing the legal career of one
of the leading anti-marriage attorneys.
He nominated Stephen Abany to a District Court.
Abany has been a key player in the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association which,
in its own words, is "dedicated to ensuring that the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision
on marriage equality is upheld, and that any anti-gay amendment or legislation is defeated."
- U.S. Senate testimony by Gov. Mitt Romney, 6/22/2004 P>

"Romney announces he won't fill judicial vacancies before term ends
Despite his rhetoric about judicial activism, Romney announced that
he won't fill all the remaining vacancies during his term - but instead
leave them for his liberal Democrat successor!

Governor Mitt Romney pledged yesterday not to make a flurry of lame-duck
judicial appointments in the final days of his administration . . . David Yas,
editor of Lawyers Weekly, said Romney is "bucking tradition" by resisting the urge to
fill all remaining judgeships. "It is a tradition for governors to use that power to appoint judges
aggressively in the waning moments of their administration," Yas said.
He added that Romney has been criticized for failing to make judicial appointments.
"The legal community has consistently criticized him for not filling open seats quickly enough
and being a little too painstaking in the process and being dismissive of the input of the
Judicial Nominating Commission," Yas said.
- Boston Globe 11/2/2006

“The Massachusetts Republican Party died last Tuesday.
The cause of death: failed leadership.

The party is survived by a few leftover legislators
and a handful of county officials and grassroots activists
who have been ignored for years.
Services will be public and a mass exodus of taxpayers will follow.
In lieu of flowers, send messages to Republican voters
warning them about a certain presidential candidate named Romney.”
- Boston Herald, 11/12/2006

"In 2006, while Romney was chairman of the National Republican
Governors Association - a group dedicated to electing more
Republican governors - his own hand-picked Republican successor
as governor lost badly to the Democrat, despite the fact that Republicans
have held the governorship in Massachusetts since 1990. Romney largely
ignored the Massachusetts elections and spent most of the time
during the campaign out of state building his presidential campaign.
He came back and publicly campaigned for the Republican candidate
the day before the general election!
“Locally, this is a rebuke to Mitt Romney and checking out within six months
after being elected and having accomplished almost nothing,”

[Jim] Rappaport [former chairman of the state Republican Party]."

Diogenesis,

Thank you for some facts. It is much more effective than the usual “I hate Mormons” type of posts I see here.

2008 was a horrible crowd to pick from, I did not like 90% of them, but by the time they got to my state's Primary it did not matter. I will do some studying up on Romney, looks like he is running and if he is as big of a Rino as it looks I want some facts for friends/associates.

Religion is not a factor anymore - it wasn’t for 0 even though he was clearly a muslim sympathizer and many suspected him to be a muslim before the election.

that you claim are "usual", but which I have not seen?

Take a look at posts 18 and 35, not as blatant as some, but I can see it there. I don't go out of my way to track them but do find it noticeable.

My opinion is this. From what I have read the founding of the Mormon church seems a bit cult like. But my belief, is that the LDS has become more mainstream than the FLDS.

My background is: raised Methodist, attended Baptist churches for a while and now attend Catholic Church but never “converted”. I believe that following ANY Christian faith is better than being Atheist or Secular, at least you have some type of Moral foundation.

Not trying to start anything, I just notice criticism of the Mormon church pretty regular. Personally, I don't think it makes an effective political argument when it comes to Romney. I think it is true that there is a bit of Anti-Mormon bias in the country and that will most likely make him un-electable. I just prefer to keep my political arguments more on facts and less on bias. But I will make an exception with Obama sitting in Rev Wrights pew for 20yrs. Black Liberation Theology is NOT a religion in my book, it is more of a Marxist, Black Power political movement disguised as a religion.
