East Germany has always fascinated me.

I went to the first Volksmarsch event in East Germany in 1990 (prior to reunification), in Graefenau in the state of Thueringen. It was a fascinating study of two disparate parts of one society. Traveling from Coburg in the west across the border to East Germany, I felt like I’d taken a trip back 50 years through a time warp.
