You may remember Chris Riccitelli. He shot and killed a man trying to rob a Kangaroo Express in Ocoee Jan. 5 in what police determined was a justifiable homicide. The robber had clocked the store clerk in the head with a beer bottle, and Riccitelli thought he was trying to kill her.
Since then, the 26-year-old man's life has taken some strange turns.
Some time after the fatal shooting, Riccitelli was at another convenience store when a man recognized him from television. That man suggested he might follow Riccitelli and attack him if he were a relative of robber Freddie Carson.
Every now and then, strangers introduce themselves and tell him "good job."
Riccitelli never got any money off of his story, though he wishes he did. His mother has cancer, and she might lose her home.
Police took the Springfield pistol he used in the shooting as evidence, but haven't given it back. Riccitelli really, really wants his gun back.
Riccitelli also has to watch his back, he said. Carson's friends might be trying to get revenge, he said.

There is NO reason for the cops to keep the gun this long!
You really are on your own.
That's why the cops took the pistol. Gotta even up the odds.
he needs a more vocal attorney.
He needs to go buy another damn gun, is what he needs.
I wonder if he can afford one... :-(
Self-defense, gun confiscated ping..
Since no crime was committed by the shooter, evidence of what? Time to get a lawyer to file a petition to get the gun back. Or maybe he can file it himself.
I would really be mad if I shot someone with my XD and the cops wouldn’t give it back. That’s just not right.
Because the cops they don’t need you, and man they expect the same.
This is why you always own two pistols.
Perhaps the NRA, flush as it is with more member dues than ever in its history, could let loose with a couple of bucks to help provide legal assistance to victims of law enforcement such as this man is. His right to defend himself has been taken away, and the police need to be hauled into court to explain what crime he has committed that led to the confiscation of his gun.
Hi, we at the Orlando Sentinel just wanted to make sure the perp’s friends all know that the crime victim is now disarmed and vulnerable. This has been a public service message by the Orlando Sentinel. Thanks for listening...
They always take them for evidence until you are cleared or convicted and they it takes forever to get them back if ever. He needs to get a lawyer and demand they return his gun forthwith. Whole collections of guns have been lost to this BS tactic of LE agencies.
Methinks they need to apply something similar to the “Reasonable Man” concept in law.
Are you a member of the NRA? This year, the NRA has been giving away free introductory memberships with all benefits and the magazines. The NRA isn’t exactly “flush”.
Maybe the goa could do something on their own for once. The goa turned their backs to the Katrina victims and they have yet to file a lawsuit against any city since the Heller verdict. Just once I would like them to do something. Anything. Even the Second Amendment Foundation does more.
Even Freeper Basil’s group, the Second Amendment Sisters have ladies classes.
What is it with some LEOs and taking stuff? Isn't there something in the Constitution about depriving a citizen of his property without due process?
I really miss our Constitution...
I emailed the NRA with the story and the link. I suggested they get involved by first highlighting how the citizen protected his business and employee, but now how he is left without his self-defense due to LE keeping his pistol. I also suggested the NRA donate a new one to him.
