Sen. [Blanche] Lincoln [D. Ark] Reverses Position on Public Option
Roll Call ^ | 02 September 2009 | David M. Drucker

Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), still facing the prospect of a tough re-election in 2010, has reversed her position on the public insurance option, saying Tuesday she will oppose the measure as a part of health care reform after previously expressing support for the policy, the Arkansas News reported.

Lincoln’s vote on a health care reform bill could be key as the Senate Democratic leadership looks to build a coalition of 60 Senators to pass legislation without using reconciliation. Reconciliation is a budgetary tool that would allow Democrats to clear a bill with just 51 votes.

“For some in my caucus, when they talk about a public option, they’re talking about another entitlement program, and we can’t afford that right now as a nation,” Lincoln said in a speech to the Elder Law Task Force at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. “I’m not going to vote for a bill that’s not deficit-neutral, and I’m not going to vote for a bill that doesn’t do something about curbing the cost in the out years, because it would be pointless. ... I would not support a solely government-funded public option. We can’t afford that.”

But in an opinion piece she wrote for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in July, Lincoln said the public insurance option should be included in health care reform legislation. A public insurance option would compete with private insurers to offer health care coverage.

“Health care reform must build upon what works and improve inefficiencies. Individuals should be able to choose from a range of quality health insurance plans. Options should include private plans as well as a quality, affordable public plan or non-profit plan that can accomplish the same goals as those of a public plan,” she wrote.

Even with the so called “public option”, this bill is evil!

They will just pass it and cut out whatever they want later.

Our government can not be trusted!

She’ll get a call from DNC Headquarters telling her that some prominent...and very well financed...Arkansas RAT will be challenging her in next year’s state primary.

Flip flop! NEVER trust a RAT! They can always come back and add back in the options they want. All they have to do is stick it in the middle of another 1000 page bill that NO ONE reads, and it becomes law. The entire bill needs to be tossed in the trash can.

Too late for a come to Jesus moment. No more pretending to be conservative, then acting liberal, then running back to conservatism for anyone.

They are all phonies!

What’s good about this? A minion changed her opinion after the Great Leader said so?

Do you think that the House ever feels as useless and irrelevant as it apparently is.

All I ever see is what the Senate is saying and doing on healthcare. Like the House is already in the bag, fat chance, right?

I just heard of a Democrat trick that I had not known about before. The “conservative, Blue Dog” Democrats will make a public pronouncement on camera rejecting the Obama health care proposal but then VOTE FOR IT. How does this work? The Dems know that this will make a big splash back home, even people who watch c-span will see the speech and believe that their Blue Dog Democrat is not like one of those bad big city Democrats, not knowing how their representative actually voted. Wonders never cease when the devious Dems are at work.

We were at the Arkansas football game in Little Rock, and someone flew over the field with a sign that said,”Fire Blanche Lincoln”. People were cheering. It was funny.!! We also saw her at dinner a couple of Saturdays ago at Cantino Laredo and she was sitting at a table in the middle of the restaurant. I guess she wanted to get a feel of her constituents. Not one person for two hours came up to her and said a word. She left with no one patting her on the back or saying thank you for your service. Poor gal...lol! me thinks she will not get re-elected.
BTW: she has cankles..
