Much of this is by design, to see what they can get away with, incrementally. Thus far, we haven’t fought back, so they’ll continue. The court systems are a joke, the only effective way to fix this problem is to fight fire with fire. The day our side decides it’s time for that, things will turn around.
People need to recognize danger early and react to it immediately.
I’m not saying a single individual has much of a chance against a mob, but your typical thug is a coward. When they hear the cha-ching of a chambering round (if not already against hammer), they will respect the fact that death can come their way at any moment.
If they draw weapons, they will be looking at much longer jail sentences and will be creating an evidence chain that can help convict them.
And, citizens with guns are a deterrent to this sort of activity.
“I think CCW can only work if there are at least two CC’s together — one against a mob is certain death.”
Not certain death. The mob has to decide which six people will die before they get you. Not a pleasant situation....for them.
Years ago, I saw a sticker on the back of a Rolls Royce in downtown L.A......... “ I carry a Smith & Wesson 3 days a week. You guess which 3”
This is why we need assault weapons. A handgun might not be able to protect you from a mob like this, you could kill a few of them but then they’d get you.
But if you had a semi-automatic with enough rounds, and quick-swap clips, you could defend yourself, and discourage this type of activity.
I remember being able to walk all over the city as a kid without fear.
Last week there was a shooting near Oxford Circle, close to the old neighborhood in Mayfair, which was UNHEARD OF in decades prior.
One can make a mob turn back. Remember the Rodney King riots, some jewelry store guard shot into the mob, killed one guy and the rest left. Since nobody in the mob wants to get shot once you prove you’re willing to shoot they’ll generally turn around and leave. And of course if they don’t, well things were probably going to end badly anyway, might as well take a few with you.
I was there that night, and several other nights this crap was occurring. All persons attacked by the mob were Caucasian.
Generally, a bike can outrun a mob, and a backback wouldn’t really slow you down, but you have to get moving because in the 1st 10 seconds they can catch you and knock you over.
Probably he figured they were busy and wouldn’t bother a bystander.
I would not bet on him going to prison. In fact, I would say the chances of him going home after court are greater than me being elected president.
That is the way it goes. The Democrat Party doesn’t respect us. THe Republican Party Does’t respect us. The Socialists and obama’s goons and thugs do not respect us. The criminal element doesn’t respect us. They all see us as an easy mark. “Us” being lawabiding citizens. At one point in time, they all either feared or respected us.
It is going to get much worse. When you cow down to these type, just expect more of the same.
Why am I not surprised.
Whaaa?
Having had my laugh, you are correct BUT it takes even more time to horse your bike around to go back. What was the traffic, how wide a circle can you make? The reason I was suggesting dropping the backpack is that may be what attracted the mob.
I recall what I have been told as best prep for a mugging. You have a money clip separate from your wallet, when confronted by the mugger you take the clip and in one motion flash it and toss it in the opposite direction from where you start running towards. A little lost cash is better than the alternative.
Thanks, AW.
Based on the information, I’d say that we’re better off gleaning the lessons learned rather than saying how we would have opened fire, or whether he had time to draw if he had been carrying.
I think the lesson is to stay aware of your surroundings. Things can happen very quickly, but we almost always have time to avoid the moment when things happen quickly.
Whether riding a bike or driving a car, be observant at all times. When there’s a crowd up ahead, there’s no reason to go there. This bloke might have seen the group from a block away and bypassed. If we’re five minutes late, we’re five minutes late.
I hope I’m not sounding too pedantic or preachy.
Crowds gather around fights, street performers, and accidents. We’re better off not being around any of those things. ;)
The scenario you describe may indeed take place, with prior planning. The man in this article was not in a position to have taken this route, is what I’m sayin’. Gun enthusiasts should find out if he has a donation fund and also try to take him under their wing. Getting robbed at gunpoint several times on city sidewalks certainly made me a believer in the old saying, “A liberal is a conservative who hasn’t gotten mugged yet.”
Some decades ago, I not only used to bike in Philadelphia, including putting my toddler in a baby seat on the back (not at night, though). I also commuted to university by bike, through some areas not far from the place where this riot took place. It is sad how welfare has ruined cities and people.
DC, too -- you could walk all over. Who let the dogs out? It's all gone to the dogs.
Sickening. Is the Kentucky Fried Chicken still on or near that corner? Territory....
Convincing argument for many people to obtain firearms training.
Spot on!
A "mob" that would take on a CCW (with weapon out) would have to be exceptionally disciplined. Yes, they could swarm, but every individual in the pack imagines that he is the one that's going to get 'unlucky'. Even a street gang -- which you would expect to have longer association, and better leadership -- would probably not rush somebody brandishing a firearm in most situations.
Just my take...
