Obama 'Outreach' To School Kids Feels More Like Personality Cult
IBD Editorials ^ | September 4, 2009 | The great MARK STEYN

Posted on 09/04/2009 6:00:31 PM PDT by Kaslin

On Friday, I had the rare honor of appearing in the pages of the New York Times, apropos President Obama's plans to beam himself into every schoolhouse in the land in the peculiar belief that Generation iPod will find this an enthralling technical novelty. As Times reporters James C. McKinley Jr. and Sam Dillon wrote:

"Mark Steyn, a Canadian author and political commentator, speaking on the Rush Limbaugh show on Wednesday, accused Mr. Obama of trying to create a cult of personality, comparing him to Saddam Hussein and Kim Jong Il, the North Korean leader."

Oh, dear! "A Canadian author": Talk about damning with faint credentialization. I don't know what's crueler, the "Canadian" or the indefinite article.

As to the rest of it, well, that's one way of putting it. Here's what I said on Wednesday re dear old Saddam and Kim:

"Obviously we're not talking about the cult of personality on the Saddam Hussein/Kim Jong Il scale."

Close enough for Times work.

But, if the Times wants to play this game, bring it on. The Omnipresent Leader has traditionally been a characteristic feature of Third World basket-case dumps: The conflation of the man and the state is explicit, and ubiquitous

In 2003, motoring around western Iraq a few weeks after the regime's fall, when the schoolhouses were hastily taking down the huge portraits of Saddam that had hung on every classroom wall, I visited an elementary-school principal with a huge stack of suddenly empty picture frames piled up on his desk, and nothing to put in them.

They do NOT like it when we scream about their agenda and propoganda.

Tough noogies.

Pump up the volume.

Captive audience equals indoctrination! If you think this is the first your wrong, fox news just aired show tonight on what and who are writing our text books for our children, a real eye opener. We are being attacked from all sides now. American culture is in danger of extinction!

A bunch of the libs have been comparing a speech that George HW Bush made in Oct. 1991 to schoolchildren. In it he did ask that schoolchildren write to him and tell him how they could help “us”.

As usual the libs are drawing a faulty comparison. GHW Bush did not issue any government approved lesson plans giving assignments that excerpts from his other speeches and books by/about him be read and that children be graded on how they listened and reacted to his speech by making short term goals and having teachers check up on them later in the year to make sure they were achieving them for the President.

GHW Bush did not say anything political in his speech. We haven’t seen Obama’s speech, but there is no way you can convince me that if there hadn’t been this outcry that he wouldn’t have used the chance to indoctrinate the kids on the global warming scare, the virtues of green living and universal healthcare.

Like I said, GWB was reading books to small children, not broadcasting propoganda to every school, at lunchtime no less.

You are missing the point. “Progressives” work from emotion. The more people they can get to vote from emotion, rather than experience and reason, then the better chance they have of gaining power.

Younger folks fill that bill just fine, thank you.

Read this for an eye opener:

http://www.pierretristam.com/Bobst/08/c102008.htm

“In other words, high school students are in a better position to cast an open-minded vote, and certainly one less burdened by the prejudices of history and ideology, than their elders.

In that case, why stop at 16 (as in Austria, Brazil and Nicaragua)? Why not 14, 10 or 8? Personally, I have no objection to anyone of high school age automatically having the right to vote, or anyone who files taxes, or anyone younger than 14 who passes an adult citizenship test.”

I sent an email to my district asking if there would be alternate arrangements for kids whose parents did not want them exposed to obama. So far, I haven’t heard back, which probably means my kids will have a day of home schooling. Maybe we’ll read the Constitution and bill of rights, go to the firing range, read a Bible verse or two... You know, those things that mark me as a bitter-clinger, right wing extremist, birther, and American.

I guarentee you, the speach he is going to say now is much different than originally planned.

You are missing the point.

I was of the understanding Obama was just going to talk to the grade school kids... and they will still be too young to vote for him in 2012...

Think about that for a moment. It's not a waste of time if you don't plan to leave.

Well then you don't need voters at all then

I can feel it...I seriously can but not without the People’s revolution. We need passionate patriots and not business manager’s running the Republican party now. It’s obvious.

We need the “regular” guy leading this revolution.

Oh, they want voters, make no mistake about it. They just don't allow the votes to change anything.

Frankly, if he attempts a coup of some kind, it will be a whole new ballgame...and I don't know what kind of support he will need.

And it sure looks like he and his minions are planning something, because America, thanks to Beck and Limbaugh, is catching onto Obama and his presidency, for all intents and purposes, is dead in the traditional sense IMHO.

Obama is vacating the WH... he has zero political capital left... he is gone in 2012...

True in the traditional sense.

He will either accept the fact that his presidency is lame or manufacturer some kind of crisis that would permit him to declare a state of emergency and proceed from there to take control...temporarily at first, then segue from there into a more permanent coup.

You can tell Obama is desperate when he is wasting time trying to convert kids that won’t be old enough to vote for him in 2012...

No, but they will be old enough to help elect him "President for Life" in 2020.

A teacher friend of mine was telling me today how their school was all in love with ZERO and for the plans for the speech to the schoolkids they even got a LESSON PLAN from the White House on what the teachers should be doing to prepare in advance for the speech etc. It is so much like Hitler did to the youth it is frightening!!

Interestingly the school is 90% Haitians and as far as they are concerned ZERO can do NO WRONG!!
