I’m in the hospitality industry and I can tell you they used to be treated with DDT. There are also many more travelers coming to the US from other parts of the world and sometimes those bugs are immune to the treatements used in this country now.

The thing about bed bugs is that they don’t only infest beds ~ carpet, couches, clothing, luggage ~ anything is fair game. They travel from room to room so if a hotel has them in one room they usually treat the rooms to each side and above and below that room.

Then if you’ve stayed in a room that had them your suitcase comes home infested as well as the clothes in the suitcase and thus your house now has bed bugs. If you suspect you have them immediately throw out the suitcase, wash your clothes in the hottest water possible and contact a company like Eco-Lab pest control in case you want to proactively treat your home.
