He knew that if the congressional investigation were to go forward, he would have been toast. The White House knew that also, and it would have turned into a mess for both. It's one thing to deflect comments from bloggers and talk show hosts. It's quite another to explain yourself in front of Congress. The commie scum ran like a rat deserting a sinking ship.
I don’t think they really believe that deep down. You know a lot of them watched Beck’s exposé or they wouldn’t have been trying to bring him down in the first place. If they watched, they had to see the video/audio footage of Jones’ various remarks over the years and in recent year, even months. So, they’re just spinning it that this is about calling pubs assholes as cover for what Jones is really all about.
It’s pretty bad when the best thing you can say about a close adviser to the president is that he called pubs assholes and said Bush arranged the attack on the WTC.
How could they think otherwise? Initially when it was covered by cable news (including fox) that was all they offered and it was the big bad insulted republicans looking for his head. Even today as the MSM is shamed into covering it, it's portrayed as a man who has apologized twice but to no avail.
I'm waiting to see when Rev. Wright's newest statement that the racist right wing is preventing poor black folks from getting health care will get air time.
Of course they think that. They want to feel safe. Of course they know what’s it all about, and the denial blocks it. If they weren’t set to denial then the shock of knowing Jones is only the first of many to be, ehem, “outed” (out he goes) as a communist would melt their heads.
