God’s mercy is based on the sacrifice of Christ at Calvary, where God showed NO mercy to His own Son, but instead poured out on Him unmitigated wrath for the sins of the whole world. Because the Father did not show mercy there, He is free to show mercy to underserving sinners.
We pray for God’s mercy on our nation, on our families, on our children and grandchildren. We would like to see God’s mercy on EVEN Obama, but Obama must believe the Truth of Christ’s sufferings in order to benefit from God’s mercy in redemption.
Short of Obama coming to Christ, he remains an enemy to all that is holy, good, and right in our nation. We don’t coddle enemies.
That holds true if you believe exclusively in the atonement nature of what happened on Calvary, but by your argument that would hold true for everyone who was not “in Christ”, for all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, and those who have not accepted His redemption cannot even count on his mercy. Are they all enemies to be “smitten hip and thigh”?
