CA: GOP Guv debate is on --- minus Meg Whitman -- for Thursday on KGO
SFGate.com ^ | 9/8/09 | Joe Garofoli

Here's the first post-Labor Day chance for you to hear what the Republican candidates for Guv sound like live, unscripted and grilled by someone who knows how to ask questions: A "moderated conversation" at 9 a.m. Thursday on the highly-rated "Ronn Owens Program" on KGO (810 AM). And they'll be welcoming calls, too, so start dialing.

Well, most of the Republican candidates will be there. Ex-Rep. Tom Campbell and Insurance Commish Steve Poizner will show. Ex-eBay CEO Meg Whitman won't. Here's a reminder about about all the backstage drama behind this.

Whitman's reason for blowing off one of the nation's most powerful talk show hosts? Camp Whitman's Sarah Pompei tells us Tuesday:

"Meg's schedule is set weeks in advance and we received this invitation with only one week's notice. We were not able to rearrange her schedule so that she could participate. Currently, we're working with Ronn Owens' producer to set up an interview so Meg and Ronn can discuss the important issues facing the state."

We asked what Meg will be doing instead during showtime Thursday, but have not heard back The schedule on Meg's website looks kinda empty.

...

The larger question: Does the Whitman camp -- with a ton of cash in the bank, much of it courtesy of the billionaire -- need "free media"? If Team Poiz doesn't raise enough cash by the next fundraising deadline gut check (at the end of September) to scare her, Whitman may feel little pressure to indulge such joint appearances in the future while she's still getting her political sea legs.

Whitman would be a disaster, she’s not a politician yet, and she already knows how to play the game like the roaches at the bottom of the political septic tank.

Meg Whitman is Mitt Romney's hand picked candidate for governor.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic Anyone that isn't sure who Meg Whitman is can watch her trying to sell the media on what a great guy Van Jones is.

I went to High School with Meg but I will note several differences between her and myself.

She's a big government type and I'm not.

She hasn't aged very well while I still have it.

LOL!

Sorry.

she doesn’t want to be asked about Van Jones.

Exactly. She doesn't want to "man up". She wants to avoid tough questions(Van Jones), out spend her opponents 2 to 1 and smear them with propaganda. She'll be a total disaster if she wins. There's nothing worst than a politician that won't take responsibility for screw ups. And has an endless supply of money to fill the airwaves with propaganda.

What a pantload. This woman wants her own show. Another reason not to vote for her. Swinging her weight around like she is something more than a POS.

She screwed up Ebay. Took her money and ran. Unfortunately, she has the money to win.

Another clueless patrician big business nimrod from the California GOP candidate sausage factory. I have given up hope that the GOP is ever going to get it.
