There will be no shortage of Kennedys this evening at President Barack Obama’s address on health care to a joint session of Congress.
Vicki Kennedy, widow of the late Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy, is a guest of First Lady Michelle Obama.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will host the late senator’s children, including Rhode Island Democratic Rep. Patrick Kennedy, Ted Kennedy Jr., and Kara Kennedy and her two children.
The notable presence of Kennedy family members suggests the president will give a nod to the late senator in his speech this evening. Kennedy devoted much of his nearly five decade long Senate career to health care reform, and his months-long absence from the chamber this year before his death last month was often cited as a reason why bipartisan consensus has been so hard to find.
On Capitol Hill today, it was announced today that Sen. Tom Harkin will take over Kennedy’s old post as chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, positioning the Iowa Democrat as a key player on the issue in the months ahead.

Some of those Kennedy folk are on drug maintenance programs ~ so we assume Nancy Pelosi has taken care of that already so they don’t get up and start shaking and stuff.
Who will the child-prop be tonight? I’m thinking a kid with cancer, sitting near Michelle. The Dims can’t argue for something like Healthcare without trotting out a sick kid. Stay tuned, I guess.

I guess the Rats did not get the memo that outside of Massachusetts and the DC beltway, the Kennedys are generally despised by the public at large. By parading them in the Congress, he’s doing himself no favors.

That was William Kennedy Smith. If I recall correctly, he was in medical school to become a doctor at one time. I don’t know if he ever became a doctor. Yes he is Ted’s nephew.
