The outpourings of sympathetic pity flowed like milk and honey every time one of the former workers wrote an impassioned and pathetic sob story in the local rag.
Until, that is, some sane person hit them with a reply blaming them and their greedy union overlords for their loss of jobs.
The sob stories stopped, after that.
Hell, for all I know, it was the first time any of them had ever considered their own culpability.
