Again, being new to this site, I do not know what “bump” means unless you are describing your view on the world!

Pings are alerting someone to notice a thread. People will see you're interested in end times stuff, and might "ping" you, to get your attention to read a thread. If you look at the top of your FreeRepublic page, you'll see Pings. Click on that, and it tells you comments made by you, or to you.

Bumps are peoples way of letting you know they found the thread, whether the article and/or discussion interesting, and that they will check back later when they have more time. Sometimes people say "Bump". Sometimes they say "Bump for later".

Back to Pings. As you get more into FR, you might make lists of people who you know would be interested in a thread, because of its topic. You can ping them by replying to someone in the thread, by putting their name(s) in the "To" box. The next time they browse FR they'll be alerted to check out your ping.

“bump” pushes this thread.

the more bumps a thread gets, the more popular.

sometimes people call this “bump to the top” .

also, by bumping a thread, i mark this thread so that i can read the thread later at my leisure.

after you’re logged in, go into your account, and then to your comments. this bump marked this thread onto my comments.

best regards,
ken
