Autopsy inconclusive in ex-Blagojevich aide's death

Country Club Hills mayor Dwight Welch said today that the girlfriend of Christopher Kelly has "lawyered up" and is no longer talking to police investigating the Saturday death of the former top Rod Blagojevich adviser.

Meanwhile, the Cook County medical examiner's office said this afternoon following an autopsy that a determination of cause and manner of Kelly's death was "pending further studies," meaning officials need to conduct additional investigations to officially rule whether Kelly committed suicide.

At a morning press conference, Welch also said police are searching for a man who went to Oak Forest Hospital while Kelly was being treated in the emergency room and claimed to be Kelly's friend. The man, described by the mayor as a white male with gray hair, was looking for Kelly's black Cadillac Escalade, which apparently was used to take Kelly to the hospital.

Welch said police were called from Oak Forest Hospital at 2:58 a.m. Saturday to interview Kelly and his girlfriend, who identified herself as Clarissa Flores of Chicago. She told police she was Kelly's girlfriend and had driven Kelly to the hospital. He was later transported to Stroger Hospital at 4:15 a.m. and pronounced dead at 10:46 a.m. Saturday.

Since Blago emailed Fox News around 3am on Saturday to say he was not going to be interviewed later that morning, was this email before or after Blago was informed of the “discovery” of Kelly?
Did anyone else know about Kelly’s apparent ingestion of aspirin?
Since he was going to be a key witness in a Federal case, what is FBI’s involvement in processing the scene and/or interviewing the girlfriend or the mystery gray-haired white male 'friend'?
Was he conscious enough to give a statement to hospital staff?
What was time of call versus time of death versus the 3am email from Blago to Fox News?

No kidding! This whole deal smells.

We don't know anything about this other than what has been reported in the local press -- which isn't necessarily accurate.

But the coroner has to determine the cause and manner of death. It makes sense to draw blood and tissue samples and send them for toxicology testing. Furthermore, the police need to get statements from the parties and search for evidence.

If the girlfriend is "lawyered up," as the mayor claims, and if there is a gray-haired mystery witness somewhere, the local cops need to do a lot more investigating before this one can be nailed down. IMHO.
