A million or more rock Washington--Taxpayer march could be biggest rally ever in capital.

WASHINGTON – The capital was rocked today by a taxpayer march and rally that could be the biggest protest ever – potentially dwarfing the Million Man March and the Promise Keepers Rally.

Though crowd estimates vary from as low as 60,000 to 70,000 according to ABC News to a high of 2 million by London Daily Mail, photographs and videos of the march and rally demonstrate its enormity.

The taxpayers stormed Washington, D.C., today, taking their fight against excessive spending, bailouts, growth of big government and soaring deficits to the front door of the U.S. Capitol.

All week citizens have been heading to the Hill by the busloads for the showdown today. The Tea Party Patriots' "Tea Party Express" national bus tour has been hosting a series of tea party rallies all across the nation. A caravan of buses, speakers and entertainers arrived in Washington, D.C., just in time for the march. The taxpayers have paid their own way to the event.

The White House said Friday it was unaware of the rally. President Obama has traveled to Minneapolis, Minn., to promote his health-care plans at a rally there.

But so many taxpayers showed up on Pennsylvania Avenue that the crowd ran out of room and the march was forced to begin early.

WND was at the scene to get crowd reaction and take photos of the protest.

The thing is, I would think it would be virtually impossible to tell from just where you were to see the actual crowd, only your particular place in the crowd. The reason there are so many differing numbers flying around, is those of us who kept vigil with you were seeing the overall crowds, the overall pictures and news feeds. This was more than a couple hundred thousand, though right where you were, that would be an accurate summation.

Don’t forget to add the millions who wish they were there, and the hundreds of thousands who attended local rallies. mine alone was about 3000. Thank you for being in that crowd on Sat. I cried like a baby when I started seeing the crowd amass, hearing they were turning away multitudes, and hearing the speakers on cspan! What a perfect way to remind ourselves of who we are, especially after the heartwrenching memorials the day before. What an amazing 24 hours. God bless you every one!

The people that know about what is going on are not the ones that you need to be talking to; that is like witnessing in church. We are talking to the blacks (and liberal whites, who seem to be more close minded, and much less intelligent!) in our neighborhood and around town, as the opportunity presents itself. Many are frustrated with the way things seem to be going, but have no clue about the news other than the MSM.

On your chart, the ticketed areas hold 250,000...that is about the area the march Saturday covered at 1:30 with about a 1/4 of Pennsylvania Avenue still packed.

We got the 1.2 million from some locals here in Charlotte that talked to the Park Police when they were leaving. Apparently the police were stunned at the size of the crowd.

“The White House was unaware of the rally” - suuuureeee they were in the dark on it....I can’t believe they truly think that Hugo would leave on a Saturday to go to MN for an obviously handpicked audience to rant some more about his health farce and think people are so stupid as to not realize he knew full well what was happening in DC on Saturday....he makes me sicker every day!

Please, I’m not trying to shortchange the turnout! It was unbelievable!!! Especially when you consider that it truly was a grass roots turnout!

Many were like me...I left SC at 10:00 Friday night, drove straight through to Washington arriving at 6:00 AM. We were at Freedom Square at 8:30, marched and stayed till 2:00 PM then drove home. We got here about 9:00 PM.

I have never been more proud to be an American. The crowd was well behaved, clean, and determined!! It was a wonderful thing that doesn’t need to get lost in crowd estimates.

The libs are looking for anyway to discredit this and exaggerated numbers will only help. I would rather conservatives lowball their estimates than get caught crowing about unreal numbers.

Agreed. I know that is why fox is lowballing. They will be able to report the event attendence as much higher than previously reported when the numbers get out.

I just was saying that it is sometimes hard to see the forest for the trees. Many were already at the rally site and didn’t march at all. Many others were turned away from the city. Video tapes are circulating as well as reports of the police being overwhelmed at the size, 10 to 20 times larger than anticipated. I have no illusions that it is anywhere near 2 million, but a million or darn close is not out of the realm of possibility.

Like you, I prefer to wait for something more official, but anything less than half a million will not be accurate.....

God bless you and your patriotic feet! SC shoutout- lived there for a while upstate. Gods country!

Thank you very much, but when I got home, the first thing I did was call my dad. He spent 6 months in a German POW camp to give me the opportunity for that trip, and I thanked him for it.

God bless everyone that showed up Saturday or supported those who did, and God bless America!

We need comparison pictures of what the streets looked like after Obiwons coronation and the Tax Payer march on Washington.

I bet after 9/12/09 the streets were pretty much garbage free, not like the pictures after Obiwons Inauguration.

My “lib-in-law” (LOL) called the protesters “Jackasses!”. This coming from an upper middle class 80 year old Methodist. Most of her circle believe the same way.

From the American Thinker

“The truth will out. Despite mainstream media attempts to characterize turnout as in the thousands, a spokesman for the National Park Service, Dan Bana, is quoted as saying, “It is a record.... We believe it is the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever.”

Except the rectangular field in the ticketed area was never more than sparsely populated. Posted pictures will confirm this. That means the number on the mall itself was significantly lower than the 240k capacity of the ticketed area according to the chart.
