Republican David Vitter says no federal funds should go to the New Orleans-based ACORN organization.
Vitter has introduced an amendment to the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development funding bill that would bar any federal money in that approrpriation from going to ACORN.
"It's certainly not news to anyone that ACORN has been the subject of some controversy over the past year, and last year's presidential election brought to light evidence of ACORN chapters engaging in fraudulent voter registration activities," Vitter said.
"They are currently under federal investigation and this is simply not the sort of organization that should be funded by taxpayer dollars."
Vitter has been an outspoken critic of ACORN and has offered multiple amendments to bar the organization from receiving federal funding. He also block the nomination of Census Director Robert Groves in the hopes of receiving written assurances from the White House that ACORN would not be involved in the 2010 census.
Vitter described the Census Bureau's decision last week to drop ACORN as a partner, "a good, common sense move."
I thought they’re under a new name. Does that include them too?
Make the Dems vote in favor of Acorn. Put em on record.
them and all alias orgs?
I’m glad somebody’s saying it, but in light of the recent ACORN “prostitution” stings, perhaps Vitter’s the wrong guy to take point on this issue.
It would be a good start. Just a start though.
Does his amendment bar ANY funds for ACORN, or just in that appropriations bill?
I’m concerned about the $8.5 they may be eligible for from the stimulus bill.
Just saw on CNN that a 3rd ACORN prostitution video has come out, as if someone were holding them back.
I’m not really big on details, so I’ll just say that ACORN is a prostitution ring.
Defund and start investigating and prosecuting for Pete’s sake, start acting like you have some moral convictions and for the good of the nation instead of yourselves.
Sorry, that should be $8.5B in my last post...
Vitter may want to keep quiet on issues regarding prostitution and diapers.
Well, they did pimp the jOker on us.
Have they fired the latest “pimp pimpers” from NYC yet?
Haven’t heard anything on that yet.
Excellent point!
The ACORN criminal entity is preparing for a ban on "ACORN" funding by rebranding.
Also, another thread said Sen. Mike Johanns R-NE,
put in an amendment blocks federal funding of Acorn
HR3288 filed Johanns#2355.
Any and all affiliates too. Revoke the tax exempt status while they are at it.
‘Bout time.
Vitter better hire a food taster. Lotsa scratch at stake here and the thug element in ACORN cannot be denied.
So far Acorn has endorsed prostitution, child prostitution, human trafficing, sheltering illegal aliens for prostitution, mortgage fraud, income tax evasion and fraud, money laundering..isn’t that list long enough?
It definitely established that this is the kind of stuff they do every day.
Write your congress critter..ask them if Acorn does their taxes also..just like they do for Charles Rangel.
