Gordon Brown will tell union bosses that the plan will be implemented after Business Secretary Lord Mandelson put it on ice because of the economic crisis.
Around 400,000 men a year will qualify for the right to dramatically extended leave from April 2011.
At the moment, they can only take two weeks off, an offer taken up by 60 per cent of eligible men. By contrast, new mothers can take a year off.
As well as a sop to the unions, the move will be seen as naked electioneering.
Essentially, the reforms mean parents will be able to decide how to divide up a total of 12 months of parental leave between themselves.
A mother going back to work after six months off will be able to transfer the rest of her leave to her partner.

The announcement will be seized on by critics as evidence that the Government is caving in to pressure from its union paymasters.

Sounds like employment must be seriously down in the UK. They are finding ways to rotate employees into temp positions for up to six months.

So basically everyone should look for a single mum and ask to be her baby daddy or lesbian partner. Pay her a flat fee and then get half the year off work.

Maybe this is an attempt at population control....one baby (and the husband home all day) and that would be the last child they’d ever have.

What kind of job can you leave for 6 months or a year? Certainly not a job where individual input is important.

my mam was just over form England and she said she loved it over here and understands why I live here now.
She was pissed off seeing bozo all the time , everywhere we went there are sticker, cups, TV papers radio
she said it is like a cult and why does no one ask who is paying for this and why on earth would the country want to be like the UK.
Even she told one bozo supporter how the health care does nto work in the UK
the womans reply was that is not good and yet she said she still supports bozo and this health /death care
my mam walked away shaking her own head at the pure ignorance of that woman.
