Today, The Montana Standard launches a new weekly columnist for its editorial page Byron York will serve as a conservative voice every Tuesday...

York, a staunch conservative, presents his arguments in a thoughtful, measured fashion, rather than resorting to cheap personal attacks on President Obama and others in the Democratic Party that seem to be the hallmark of the GOP these days, said Standard Editor Gerry O'Brien.

Read that yesterday. The Montana Standard is published and read in the bastion of democrat/liberal, union based area of Montana. Deer Lodge (Anaconda) and Silver Bow Counties (Butte). BTW, I read the Montana Standard every day.

It’ll give the Butte rats something else to chew on besides the daily liberal/union garbage. Like a breath of fresh air.

The Standard Editor just insulted his conservative readers with the Dixie Chicks marketing plan.

The editor does have a good point because, to a liberal, telling the truth about Obama and the democrats is, to them, equivalent to "resorting to cheap personal attacks".

I do not understand how a state like Montana filled with really independant minded people who love their guns can remain so liberal. It just boggles the mind.

Must be that too many Zappa fans moved to Montana to be a dental floss tycoon...and stayed. :)

Sort of like Obama calling Kanye West a jackass or Van Jones calling Republicans assholes. Thank goodness we'll have none of that from the Standard!

As best as I can tell, the two counties I mentioned have always been strong democrat/union. They are, however, a very hardy bunch of hunters and fisherman who I've never understood politically. They were always heavy democrat and union, but used to be more on the conservative side. Sadly, not anymore. They were two of three counties that didn't vote for Bush. The other is ultra liberal Missoula County.

Yeah, but when Ann Coulter or Michelle Malkin remind people what jerks the democrats can be, and provide factual examples like the two you just cited, for some reason they are extreme. Even among far too many (so-called) conservatives.

The MT Standard is based in Butte MT. When copper was king, it was the headquarters for unions and their cronies, becoming a Democrat stronghold. Old traditions are hard to break there, even though the local economy sucks and all the power brokers have moved out.

Cheap shots? But hey let the Liberals take their cheap shots at President Bush and anyone in or involved with the Bush Administration. The cheap shots are ok when attacking true American Patriots such as the Tea Party people?

The hypocrisy is unreal and if this new writer is a true Conservative who writes the truth then his job may not be around for to long.

I wonder if Gerry O’Brien has ever criticized any liberal columnist for “cheap personal attacks” on President Bush and other members of the Republican Party that still seem to be the hallmark of the Democrat party?

It might also be noted that the unions caused the Anaconda Co./Atlantic Richfield to leave the area and abandon the smelter in Anaconda and the Berkley Pit in Butte. 7000+ jobs lost. Not only did Atlantic Richfield leave the area, they dismantled the smelter, leaving only the "stack".
