WASHINGTON (CNN) – Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney has planned a flurry of appearances in the Washington area this weekend, an indicator of the kind of hectic schedule he's been keeping as he looks ahead to a possible presidential bid in 2012.

His D.C. itinerary will be dominated by fundraisers, but Romney has planned a pair of high-profile speeches to conservative groups that are sure to draw attention: On Saturday he is slated to address the Values Voters Summit, and on Monday he'll deliver remarks to a luncheon at the Foreign Policy Initiative, a neoconservative think tank founded by William Kristol.

People won’t vote for Mormons because they find them to be culturally tone deaf. It’s like they were raised in a outlier or rejectionist meme, which of course they are.

Another way of describing Mormonism besides America’s first home grown religion, is as the first America’s to reject, walk away/what-ever, from American religions. Which is fine, this is a physically big country, but it makes it hard to reintegrate.

Mitt is very very poorly educated on American culture, such that it is. Very few people vote based upon reviewing Harvard Business policy papers.

In some respects, few people even care about Mormons. If they do, is is why are they different. I’d say that initial information of Mormonism isn’t very helpful for Mormonis when an ignorant begins to learn.

Don’t know what to tell you. You belong to a rejectionist religion with a very recent history, massive textual and historical problems, that willing isolated thenselves from Americans as if in a huge Texas like compound.

People find that ...odd. Queer. Outsiderish.

Mitt being a political opportunist, rootless, plastic isn’t doing Mormons any good.

No Romney since their coming to the country from England before the Civil War, has ever put on a uniform and served in the military in an fashion. Not one, ever.

They did however leave the country to flee to Mexico. I believe Romney’s dad was born in Mexico. So they have a history of being kind of rootless to America.

Mitt made his money in financials. He would of Bush like pushed TARP. He was the first to offer to bail out Detroit. He of course said that Obama and the Democrats are ...just going a bit too fast with government health care. And, of course he has his failing Romneycare.

If team Romney had not helped Obama during the two weeks before Election2008
things would have been 100,000,000,000x better. But Romney is a backstabber.

I don’t think Romney’s a “neocon,” which is fundamentally a liberal who approves of rampant foreign interventionism.

Romney *is* a liberal RINO.

From Human Events:
“Pawlenty used his time at yesterday’s roundtable discussion to cast himself as the “modern” Republican while casting aspersions on the traditional conservative message, calling for outreach to the “new demographics,” deriding the GOP for allegedly being 15 years behind in the use of the Internet, and calling for the party not to be led by “a crank.” Pawlenty appears to have John McCain’s penchant for attacking conservatives rather than those in the other party.

Pawlenty in Miami was publicly angry, agitated, and even cranky, possibly because he found himself at odds with the far more conservative tone of every other speaker here. Hundreds of RGA members, who paid thousands of dollars to attend this Conference, wildly applauded “red meat” conservative pronouncements by speakers and not the more moderate and conservative-jabbing words by Pawlenty. And then there’s his “Palin problem,” real or imagined, that hit the fan yesterday in front of the national media, possibly upon the insistence of Pawlenty himself, as the above-reported comments to CNN by an anonymous presidential aspirant indicate.”

I understand what you are saying. But my point is that Obama’s “church” was every bit as non-mainstream, out of touch with American values as the Mormon Church. But “we” elected Obama Gang Leader (or General Secretary of the Communist Party) by a not-trivial amount.

So, why do we hold Mitt to a higher standard than Obama on the religious front?

Romney can’t win for conservatives and that’s why the MSM likes him.

Obama’s church had 800 people. Basically, save political junkies, no one knows or knows them, even still.

Obama is a conformist, he has spent all his life faking it. He’s a good actor. Mitt isn’t.

Mitt is a political liberal, personally conservative person, running in a political conservative party. Obama is leftist, running as leftist in a leftist party.

On another level, I don’t think Mitt has close to him a cadre of truth tellers. Family, friends yes, but striped to the bones beaters no.

Also, one way or another, the GOP voters like fighters. Either in wars, or taking on political opponents. McCain had that. Mitt didn’t. Mitt is, and comes across as managerial. Corporate. Timid. Platitudinous.

Outside of anomalies, errors, chance that doesn’t work in the GOP.

Further, ideas. Mitt is about as failure with political economy and ideas as a used car Rotarian from Paducah.

So, basically you have a liberal Republican, unfamiliar with political theory, with mediocre cultural sense, as boring and technocratic as a East German Michael Dukakis, that doesn’t fight and whos one time claim to fame was instituting HillaryCare/ObamaCare before most every other state.

That sneaker never going to shine.

Alan Alda conservative. Non threatening. No fight. Won’t rock the boat. ‘Our Kind’ of MSM conservative.

When Mitt says conservative boob bait, the MSM gets the ‘wink-wink’ part. ( We freepers do to, but we’re told our eyes are lying)

Its politically correct to bash Mormons unless you’re Harry Reid.

Liberals dislike the Mormon church’s vocal opposition to gay marriage and abortion. Blacks don’t like the fact that the Mormon Church forbade blacks to be Church Elders as recently as 1975. Evangelicals are taught that Mormons are a cult. So Mormons get hit from all sides.
