While most Americans want the border controlled and illegal aliens kept out, many look the other way when their lawns get cut cheaply, or new roofs go on at half price, or the lettuce is cheap, etc, etc.
Now this person wants the taxpayers to start paying for them? That will backfire big time. People don’t care when it favors their pocketbook, but they’ll howl when it hurts it. Of course, most FReepers understand that illegal immigration is already hurting us. The only reason that the vast majority of Americans don't want the illegal immigrants picked up and bodily thrown back over the border is the economic benefit some think they bring. Lose that, and it curtains!
Watch the Minutemen get a whole new line of recruits if this suggestion comes to pass.
And anti-ILLEGAL-immigrant* conservatives get a lot more votes....
* Note to liberals everywhere: We are anti ILLEGAL immigrants, not anti immigrant. Please note there IS A DIFFERENCE!
They should return to their country of origin and seek appropriate care.
Why stop at our borders bishop? Why not agree to cover all of Latin America? After all that is where the catholic church’s sweet spot is, right? I am struggling as a catholic not to say anything bad about this blatant handout to a group that deserves it the least.
“Free” health care for illegal aliens may be what buries government-run health care for good. In the meantime, the Catholic church really, really needs to lose its tax-exempt status, as it is now clearly a lobbying arm of the Liberal Fascist Democrat Party.
Why don’t we all just stop giving to Churches and Charities?
Christ said, “Give unto Caesar what is Caesars’ and unto God what is Gods”
If “Caesar” is going to take our money and use it for U.S. and Worldwide social issues, why should we give to the poor that the Churches and Charities are supporting?
Government needs to get out of the business that our Churches and Charities take care of with so much better results and without nearly the same amount of corruption.
Plenty of “compassionate” Republicans feel the same way!
Just say NO!
When I lived in Mexico, we went to a 20-physician clinic owned by a friend of my husband, who is a doctor trained at Johns Hopkins, and received first class care. We paid for it as provided, and I remember thinking it was very affordable. There are several excellent hospitals in Mexico City. But the average person there does not have access to medical care that we provide, free of charge, courtesy of the taxpayers, to illegals. Like I said, Mexicans think that what is ours is theirs.
This Mexican lunk head put the prick in Bishopric. No one goes without medical care. Even illegals get medical aid and get it for free if needed. They do get deported afterword (sometimes). As far as insurance goes, when we cause the tax payer to foot the bill for illegal aliens, we open the gate to insuring the whole rest of the world. This is absolutely insane.
Personally I want to stop all immigration, we were filled up by about 1970, this last 100 million people destroyed our outdoor lives, our communities and our culture and ended America as we knew it.
If 300 million isn’t too many for you then how about 400 or 500 or 700 million, at some point even people that think a nice condo with underground parking, security guards and an annual ski trip make for a quality life must see that there is such a thing as “too many”.
I consider myself a devout Roman Catholic. While our Bishop and our Priest are very patriotic conservatives, it does seem that the Catholic church does work against the law of the land when it comes to immigration. This disgust me. I garee that such action should render the tax exempt status void but lets take it a step further.
Not taxing churches was intended to protect any sect from persecution by the state but that was before the churches were big business in this country. I would tax all churches as a corporation and allow deductions for such charitable aid as they render.
someone's "need" is not a justification to violate another's inalienable rights and property rights
I agree 100% with you - interfere in politics, and no tax exemplt status for that religion.
True that.
Still, the legal immigrant comes here by our permission. We could throttle back, or stop immigration altogether, and then the legal immigrant is stopped, too. But that is a point for the law, at least. Simply flaunting the law because it’s inconvienient to a person is tiring, but coming from a cleric of my Church’s mouth it’s extremely frustrating and saddening.
There is an admonishment by the Lord he’s forgotten—”Go, and sin no more”. Breaking the law is a sin. There’s nothing immoral about a country having immigration laws—all of them do. And ours are significantly generous compared to almost all the rest.
>>> “This should be a universal plan, that everybody should be able to participate in the plan...” <<<
Well, what about the Icelandic community? Specifically, the ones who live in Iceland. How about Martians? Would that be “universal” enough?
>>> “...That means also that we support a health care plan that includes the care of people from conception to natural death. I honor the statement of President Obama last week that federal funds are not going to be used for abortions, and also the protection of the conscience clause.” <<<
Since when is Pres. Obama a man of honor? Why is this Archbishop honoring the dishonorable?
It should also cover all Mexicans, too, huh?
Take your sorry backside to Mexico!!
Catholic bishops play a game of pretend that the immigration laws don’t aply to them and their illegal immigrant flocks. Its a numbers game and the Catholic leaders are trying to save more foreign Catholics or at least get them here to save them.
The bishops are very spaced out and other worldly ...could care less about immigrating legally
Let the Pope pull the funds out of his butt.
To help him raise money maybe the church can play bingo for abortions to raise funds. That is if this isn’t already being done to support the democrats.
As a devout Catholic, I think it’s a scandal that we have a 2nd collection for CCHD. I do not donate any money whatsoever to that.
It’s a mortal sin to miss Mass. Not all priests or bishops think the same way. But, you still have an obligation to attend Mass.
