Kucinich: Take Insurance Industry Profits to Pay for Universal Health Care Posted Sep 18, 2009 07:00am EDT by Aaron Task Related: AET, CI, WLP, UNH, ^HCX, ^DJI, ^GSPC Sen. Max Baucus' health-care bill got the cold shoulder from Republicans, but the Montana Democrat isn't making any friends on the (true) left of the political spectrum either. "The people of the United States deserve a lot better than this," Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) says of the Baucus plan. "Unless you have a public option there is no way that you can drive down the cost for health care because the insurance companies won't have any competition." We can have it all, according to Kucinich: Universal health care without higher taxes or soaring deficits. How? By taking the profits away from the insurance industry and using them to pay for health care. "If we take that money" -- $800 billion a year by Kucinich's reckoning - "and put it into care we cover everyone," he says. "So of course we can afford it. When people know a plan exists where there's no more premium, co-pays and deductibles, where everyone is covered and where no one has to go broke...I think people will listen." You may say Kucinich is a dreamer, but he's a political realist too and understands the current environment doesn't support his vision. Still, he's disappointed with President Obama for supporting what Kucinich calls a "minimalist" approach to health-care reform.

But it’s a step toward communism, which Komrade Kucinich supports whole-heartedly.
The only way to drive down cost is to ration care to the sick. Healthy people do not cost a dime. Young people cost next to nothing. The old and sick are the ones who will be cut.
Hey Denny Boy, you are looking at the wrong insurance. Take a look at the cost of medical malpractice insurance that medical professional must carry because your buddies refuse to address tort reform. Get those costs down and you have solved the problem.
I’m beginning to think he really WAS abducted by aliens.
What a moroon.
There’s a twerp with a solid understanding of capitalism . . . a guy who has never had to meet a payroll . . . a guy who has never had to worry about return on investment . . . an absolutely blathering and blithering idiot courtesy of the morons on the west side of Cleveland. Hey, they also had a big hand in giving us Voinovich!
I wonder if that tall young Brit who married the diminutive Congresscreature has gotten her US citizenship yet.The day she does...she's gonna dump him and take half his stuff with her.
Assets,salary,pension...everything!
BWAHAHAHA!
why stop at insurance profits?
why not “take” everyone’s profits?
should supermarkets make profits selling food?
should landlords make profits providng shelter?
should car dealers and airlines make profits selling transportation?
should clothiers make profits selling clothing?
should banks make profits handling money?
aren’t these necessities and thus “rights”?
at least in Kucinich-topia
My jaw is on the floor -- this guy really does have manure for brains.
Communists miss the point of "The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg" every time. If you take the profits from the companies, they will cease to be companies. If you pass universal health care, there will cease to be profits.
The moral of the story is that you only get to "kill the goose"... one time.
1. If you take the money that is a higher tax.
2. $800 billion is the approximate value of all medical insurance premiums. Those aren't the profits unless the insurance companies can keep all the money and get doctors and hospitals to work for free.
3. I've heard that the profit ratio for health insurance is about 3%. Stealing that 3% won't do much for the government other than destroying the reason for health insurance companies to exist, thus collapsing the system and leaving government standing in charge of what was once the best medical system in the world.
Should lawmakers make profits by selling access and custom legislation?
Once a kook, always a kook.
Why not just complete the logical circle and auction off insurance-company workers to hospitals so they can empty bedpans?
Thus speaketh the Liberals Progressives Socialists Communists whatever name they're using this week.
How about the concept of sweat equity.
Any poor person under the age of say 45 or 50 who needs health care must work for it. Collecting trash on the interstate, sweeping city streets, washing off grafitti on public and private buildings, hand washing public vehicles, and on and on.
Yes it’s the old story of OPM, Other Peoples Money.
With a Congress that loves money, which they have for years, they believe all money is theirs for their designed uses. The country exists for them and their whims.
That’s why elections are important. America needs to wake up!
Dennis the Menace Kookcinich. Gives Ohio a bad name every time he opens his communist mouth.
Maybe an angry mob should just go take all of DK’s belongings.
What the Kook doesn’t understand, is that you can only do it once.
