Originally called geoengineering, this approach used to be dismissed as science fiction fantasies: cooling the planet with sun-blocking particles or shades; tinkering with clouds to make them more reflective; removing vast quantities of carbon from the atmosphere.

There are still plenty of skeptics, but even they have started calling for more research into climate engineering. The skeptics understandably fear the unintended consequences of tampering with the planet’s thermostat, but they also fear the possibility — which I’d call a near certainty — that political leaders will not seriously reduce carbon emissions anytime soon.
The National Academy of Sciences and Britain’s Royal Society are preparing reports on climate engineering, and the Obama administration has promised to consider it.
For perhaps $100 million, climate engineers could begin field tests within five years, says Ken Caldeira of the Carnegie Institution for Science. Dr. Caldeira is a member of a climate-engineering study group that met last year at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics under the leadership of Steven E. Koonin, who has since become the under secretary for science at the United States Department of Energy. The group has just issued a report, published by the Novim research organization, analyzing the use of aerosol particles to reflect shortwave solar radiation back into space.

Yes, I’m afraid this was predictable. The idiot governments of the formerly civilized world will spend trillions making it irreversibly cooler in response to this global warming myth, just as we find ourselves entering a little ice age.
Then they’ll say, “Oops. That was my predecessor who did that. Blame it on him. And give me more tax money so we can save the spotted horny toads from freezing to death.”
Does anyone else remember what happened when the US Navy decided to seed that little old hurricane Camille back in the late sixties? Yeah, that was a climatological marvel, wasn’t it?
I have a radical proposal - how about we leave it the heck alone until we understand it? Call me crazy...
All I know is that for the past two years it is REALLY hot here.
Of course that may be partially due to the fact that 2 years ago I moved to Phoenix.
Fruitcakes have all the power these days. Some who aren’t completely nuts should get a hold of the ones who are, and talk them out of doing anything to chill the earth during a prolonged cooling period.

Agreed, but beyond that, it is population control. Controlling the economy and energy are just a means to an end, a very horrible utopia.
