“I thought Evangelical Christians and Mormons were two different things.”

I believe the term “evangelist” refers to the writers of the Gospels, so yes, you’d think that would exclude Mormons, who have a New New Testament to follow, and as such don’t care as much about Matthew, etc. But I’m content to stick with the common definition of “evangelist” as fundamentalist and/or proselytizers. In the case of Mormons, they would be sticking to the fundamentals of the Book of Mormon, rather than the Gospels.

Please don’t make this thread into something no one intended. It was not posted to debate Mormonism. Let’s not go there.
