I may believe in a creator God but in no way do I see him as benevolent.Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
If God's not benevolent, where did good come from and why are we still here?
If God was not benevolent, there would be evil in Him, and that evil would be the greatest evil in the universe, coming from the greatest being in the universe.
At that point, becoming totally evil, everything would annihilate, as that being would be unable to tolerate any challenge to its self.
Seriously, think about what it would mean if an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent being existed with evil in it.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
When one is absolutely corrupt to begin with,
well, then it gets messy.

Thanks for your nice replies. I sure am not going to argue or debate. You are already familiar with my views because they are common to mankind, although some find answers and comfort through faith. Of course thats a good thing. The best. I am familiar with the Christian Bible as the inerrant revelation of God, man, sin, judgment, and salvation as well as its more pastoral and guidebook for life lessons. I was born again, active in my church, subscribed to Christianity Today, three hours a day of serious Bible study and analysis, worked a Graham crusade, and still remember Walk Through The Bible. My pastor was the other one of the two pastors who counseled Clinton after he got caught, lol. I am still not righteous, still would prefer Christian neighbors, still think the Bible is amazing enough that it could be supernatural. (What a great book. That it understands the hearts of man -including mine- on the most profound level is what gets to me!) But I no longer believe this world is evidence of a loving God. I have thought about it. I also still respect your belief and appreciate the prayers that will be sure to be coming my way. But in the end.. no one knows. Not knowing is the one thing all who ever lived share, thats why its called faith. And thats why when Im on a plane about to crash, or on my deathbed, Im sure I will, with contrite prayer, thanksgiving and supplication, be reminding God that once saved, always saved is very Biblically defensible.

What's with this latest crop of groups of people looking at FR as just a means to get hits on their website?Free Republic is getting a lot of attention, these days. If bloggers find it helpful to post on FR, then it means more people are aware of it. Not all have the same impressions.

I walked away from the church 20 years ago and am slowly coming around. It’s easy for me to be angry at him for any number of reasons, but there comes a point where you can no longer kick against the goads. It just wears you out. Besides, they hurt. Peace.

There have been several attempts by people lately to pimp their blogs, many of them have been zotted.
I know many individual FReepers have their own blogs and provide links to them but the thing is, it’s individuals and not groups, and they didn’t join FR just to post daily threads to link to to get hits on their blogs. Comments like *Please visit our website and leave your comments there* are kind of a clue that they are looking for hits.
If you do a keyword search on *pimpmyblog* you’ll find several threads that fall into that category.

I don’t happen to agree that “once saved always saved” is biblically defensible. Quite the opposite.

Just remember God invented beer and woman too!
You are wrapped too tight...
The Lord loves a cheerful giver...
take five, have a day off and laugh...
Remember even God took a day off.
When you get more serious than that...
bad news!
