Don't Eat Near Ramadan Fasters, Home Office Staff Told

By JASON LEWIS 19th September 2009.

Home Office staff were officially warned not to eat in front of their fasting Muslim colleagues during Ramadan – in case it made them feel hungry.

The advice came in a taxpayer-funded internal document listing do’s and don’ts during the Muslim holy month, which ends this weekend.

But the guide is now at the centre of a row with Islamic groups who said it was more likely to incite hatred of Muslims than promote understanding.

Fasting: During the holy month, devout Muslims do not drink or eat from dawn until sunset and must avoid 'all obscene and irreligious sights and sounds'

The Home Office Islamic Network produced the five-page information sheet which says: ‘In practical terms, please be sensitive when eating lunch near a Muslim colleague who is fasting. This can make an individual feel hungrier and make it more challenging to observe the fast.’

Oh, I’d eat a pork and bacon sandwich right in front of ‘em, then I’d wash it down with a ice cold beer :)

Oh for cryin' out loud. Victim-status while receiving undeserved appeasement.

There is no right answer except total submission.

I’d pull a whole roast turkey out in front of them just for giggles.

I don’t have any “fasting Muslim colleagues” so I guess this wouldn’t affect me if this rule was brought up at my current place of employment.

All this “mandated” diversity really pisses me off. I guess it’s the whole nanny state mentality, I mean, whatever happened to common decency. Why is that diversity has to be imposed on us? The answer is obvious, but I wish more conservative pundits would rail against this.

It is more imposition by an ever encroaching government, which mandates everyone to be nice. What the hell? All it does is create an atmosphere of fear, in that you do not want to go against the mandate. The next logical step is a thought police. I mean, how can you trust the people to think the ‘correct’ way?

Sorry, this whole mandated niceness pisses me off to no end.

What? They think asking everyone else to conform to the habits of 10% (or whatever) of the population might piss people off? What gave them that idea?

The idea of fasting is self sacrifice and a way to avoid temptation. By not being tempted to eat or given an opportunity to eat fasting loses its reason.

I am going to complain to Washington. I am sure my emotional psyche has been damaged since I was in grade school. Every Friday I had to watch other kids eat baloney sandwiches at lunchtime. Being Catholic...I could not eat meat then (the Church had not changed the laws yet). I was oppressed, distressed, and depressed. It made me dysfunctional. I have been scared by this and made to feel less than equal. I am now owed millions of dollars in reparations from this experience. And that ain't baloney.

When do you think I can expect my check?

Can you imagine the can of worms this COULD open? There are some Christians who believe it is a sin for a woman to cut her hair. Therefore, in order not to make the Christian womne feel inferior no women should be allowed to cut their hair.
