ACORN's record of abrupt advocacy

A woman carrying a clipboard knocks on a door in Park Heights. Her pitch is direct: "I'm Michelle from ACORN. We're fighting for change in the neighborhood. I wanted to know what you want to see changed."

The owner, who has lived in this well-worn rowhouse on Shirley Avenue for 50 years, lets her inside. Soon, Michelle Moore is talking rapid-fire about trash piles and abandoned properties and how elected officials would never allow this sort of thing to happen in stately Roland Park.

Katzenberg and state officials say Maryland ACORN has never received state funding. The bulk of its $400,000 budget this year comes from $120 per family annual membership dues and fundraisers, he said.

After filing overdue documents last week, Maryland ACORN is listed as "revived" in state records. The housing corporation is listed as "forfeited," but a national spokeswoman said the paperwork issue should soon be rectified.

Maryland ACORN has seen its coffers shrink amid the national recession. It employs four full-time and four part-time employees (after firing the two part-time employees in O'Keefe's video), compared with 15 full-time employees five years ago.

“The bulk of its $400,000 budget this year comes from $120 per family annual membership dues and fundraisers...”

So, if a family pays $120/year just what, exactly, does it get for its money? Are such payments tax deductible? Are ACORN’s books subject to outside audit?

Guided tours of multiple polling places on voting day?

The article says that ACORN fights for “social justice,” you know, a world run by hos and pimps, in politics and out. See, social justice is not the same as regular justice. Regular justice is as described in the Old Testament, based on facts and the individual facts of each case with the law applied neither to the rich because they are rich or the poor because they are poor but on the basis of the facts is the law applied. But “social justice” now that’s something different. You know it’w where the annointed get to decide based on their pet beliefs after they trash God, the feelings of most of us, the operation of markets and all the systems by which societies have functioned for millinnia in favor of their “vision.” It’s like when you ram homosexuality down everyone’s throat and trash marriage as described in the Bible and call Believers bigots. That’s social justice.

How many of those people paying $120/year also get public assistance? Ergo, in such cases the $120 dues are effectively paid by us taxpayers.

No one would whip up a protest and threaten elected officials if they arrested the owners of unmaintained abandoned properties or the owners/renters of properties with trash piles in stately Roland Park.

These people are too f’in stupid to remember when the queer RAT Mayor Schaefer cleaned up the entire city of Baltimore with trash trucks and gov’t employees.

The people from Park Heights and other black ‘hoods complained the next week the trash was back on streets and in their alleys.

He told them to go f yourselves, it was cleaned up and who put it there?

I’m not a fan of queer Rats but he got it right. Great mayor, lousy governor of MD.

The disconnect with ACORN is that they claim to be fighting for social justice against the same power structure they illegally support - inner city Democrat politicians.

Change I’d like to see: ACORN and its multitude of affiliates dying on the vine.

What makes you say that? He has gotten into trouble for saying AIDS victims brought it on themselves, for taunting the mannish female newscaster Jayne Miller, and for sexually harassing a much-younger woman in his office.
