A Muslim holiday and classes go on
The Albany Times Union ^ | September 18, 2009 | Dennis Yusko

Area schools are increasingly accommodating Muslim students and staff on Islamic holidays, but not canceling classes as with Jewish and Christian observances.

Many Capital Region schools in recent years have put Eid al-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha on their education calendars, which allows Muslims to take the days off as unmarked absences and make up missed lessons.

American schools are coming under pressure to observe Muslim holidays. It’s not happening yet, but that could easily change.

We all know where it begins.

But where does it end?

Barry is wrong, America is NOT a muzzie country. If muzzies feel the need to celebrate muzzie holidays, they need to go back home. I’m tired of all this “multicultural” bovine scatology. Employers and other institutions CANNOT afford to celebrate EVERY “holiday” on the planet. If we are going to that kind of crap, we should all agree on one day per year and roll all the holidays into that one day. The “holiday” holiday.

There is a school in Texas that was thinking of dropping Christmas from the curricullum in favor of teaching some Hindu holiday. “Kids already know about Christmas”

They’ll want the whole month of Ramadan, soon.

Who names their holiday after a Japanese monster?

We are going the way of England. Time to immediately stop ALL non-Judeo-Christian immigration into this country. Period. Of course then again, thanks to our fellow country men and women who gave us a President who believes we are no longer a Christian nation. God help us all.

I do not see anything wrong with accommodating another's religious holidays. This is what our Founding Fathers would have wanted.
I am a devout Catholic and would be very upset if Christmas was not observed as a holiday i.e. day off from school or work.
But, as long as they make up their work, what harm is in this?

The “harm” is that the schools officially recognize the religious holidays with their arabic names. You can get in big trouble if you even dare called the Christmas break anything other than “Winter Break”.

I think the Muslims students should do like the Amish and Orthodox on Jan. 6, the day they celebrate Christmas.

They just don’t show up. If you ask ‘em, they had the flu :-)

At Grandma’s. With all their cousins :-)

I disagree entirely....I am also a Catholic but Christmas is celebrated as a special day by the vast majority of Americans. We cannot capitulate to every fringe “religion “ that comes along in this country....I don’t care if half of the rest of the world shares their belief, we should not become thier subjects. When you move to another country, you pretty much expect to adhere to their customs and methodology. The Muslims want to come here and have us adhere to their bizzarre practices....Shiria law indeed...I think not...if you don’t like it here and are dissatisified with the way we do things.....the boat leaves New York on a regular basis...get on it and get out!
