The antibiotics are usually given for 10-14 days, but a longer duration is needed in newborn babies, and children with poor immunity. The entire course must be given intravenously; there is no place for oral or intramuscular antibiotics in meningitis.

That Chicago Tribune article though — they can’t confirm which type? Probably because she DIDN’T have a REAL case - only a SUSPECTED/POSSIBLE case which is why the doctor sent her over to the hospital and they had the spinal tap done. Also why her stay was only 3-4 days and not WEEKS.
Like you pointed out in a later post - if she really DID have bacterial meningitis she would NOT have been sent home after 3-4 days (especially as a 3-4 mo. old INFANT).

Definitely not. My daughter had it at 8 weeks and although I had just recovered from viral meningitis they weren’t going to take any chances with an infant and she was hospitalized for a week.
