Nadler: Liberals prepared to buck Obama, Dem leadership By Michael O'Brien - 09/21/09 03:13 PM ET
Liberals in the House are prepared to buck President Obama and House Democratic leaders if they're presented a healthcare bill without a public option.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said Monday he is optimistic that any healthcare bill from the House will include a public (or "government-run") option, and are undertaking a whip count to test lawmakers' commitment to that measure.
"The public option is still very much alive only because the progressives have stood together and held our ground and said that, regardless of what the President or Leadership says, we won't vote for any bill [without] a public option," Nadler said in a chat online hosted by the liberal AMERICAblog.
Nadler told the blog that 60 lawmakers had pledged to vote against any healthcare bill lacking the public plan, and that liberal Democrats are "undertaking a whip count now to see how firm these pledges are."
Nadler has been among a coterie of liberal members of Congress to go public with their demands that the White House maintain its support for the public option. Reflecting on those efforts, the Manhattan Democrat struck an optimistic note on the public option.
"I think the chances of the public option of being passed in health care reform are pretty good," he wrote, noting that it depends on the ability of the Congressional Progressive, Black, Hispanic, and Asian Caucuses to hold together, as well as Obama's willingness to lean on Democratic lawmakers.
Nah...he should try a salad.
Suicidal. Sucks when your side is a coalition of opposing interests.
The moderates are scared sh**less of their constituents that want the government to stay out of health care.
The liberals are scared sh**less of their constituents that want government-run single-payer health care.
Neither can get enough votes to pass a bill. So, no bill will be passed.
The only thing that might get enough votes is one of the Republican proposals that addresses tort reform and puts some regulation on the insurance companies.
Please everyone watch for the building of Obama Citizen soldiers....this will be the start of his take over...
lets hope not..because neither Dem or Rep party will be in control.
Democrats are scared that doing that might largely solve the problem and take away their rationalization for nationalizing over one-sixth of the economy.
It's not socialism if you take it by the shotglass or mug instead of drinking the whole bottle.

Should read:
Liberals prepared to buck Ofama.
(Makes sense now, huh?)
Can we stop calling them democrats, progressives, or liberals. Let’s just get it on the table: Socialists.
If Nadler wants a public option, wants to follow the Obama path - just sign up for his new official title.
Thought ocurred to me that some in House and Senate were looking to use the lack of a ‘public option’ as a method to push away form a unpopular bill. Then I slapped myself and remembered what we’re dealing with. Socialists.
“Liberals prepared to buck Obama...”
Now THAT is funny stuff!
Jerrold Nadler. In my TOP TEN of politicians I’d like to punch in the face.
From your keyboard to God's computer monitor!
Would Mao be communist enough for Nadler?
They know the ObamaCare bill is in trouble. The most face-saving way out is for the “progressives” to kill it because of no public option, and the “blue dogs” to blame the hard left.
He’s so fat he wouldn’t feel it.
I think occasional rumblings from those to the left of Obama (if there is such a thing) are designed specifically to paint him as “centrist”.
He ain’t ever bucked anything but a pork chop!
He is putting up the liberal smoke screen to obscure what is happening. Implicit in the statement is that the leadership is waffling. I see no reason to believe it
