Barack Obama, College Administrator
National Review ^ | September 23, 2009 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 09/23/2009 6:39:09 AM PDT by kingattax

Our commander-in-chief seems to think he’s president of the University of America. ----

If you are confused by the first nine months of the Obama administration, take solace that there is at least a pattern. The president, you see, thinks America is a university and that he is our campus president. Keep that in mind, and almost everything else makes sense.

Obama went to Occidental, Columbia, and Harvard without much of a break, taught at the University of Chicago, and then surrounded himself with academics, first in his stint at community organizing and then when he went into politics. It shows. In his limited experience, those who went to Yale or Harvard are special people, and the Ivy League environment has been replicated in the culture of the White House.

Note how baffled the administration is by sinking polls, tea parties, town halls, and, in general, “them” — the vast middle class, which, as we learned during the campaign, clings to guns and Bibles, and which has now been written off as blinkered, racist, and xenophobic. The earlier characterization of rural Pennsylvania has been expanded to include all of Middle America.

That’s exactly how I saw this.

VDH rocks

I loved this:
“Michelle Obama during the campaign summed up best her husband’s wounded-fawn sense of sacrifice when she said, “Barack is one of the smartest people you will ever encounter who will deign to enter this messy thing called politics.”

Why are all of Baraq’s grades, papers, etc in a “lock box”
If he was a 1600 SAT, 4.0 in college, or blistered the LSAT, let’s shout it out, hey?

Probably didn’t happen. Wonder which universities he did attend out of the three, and who footed the bills. He didn’t. This guy has been pushed by someone who knew how to start him in organizing and getting into the Black community via churches for a base. Then introduce him to the right people.

What a great article!

You know it’s amazing to me that 63 million Americans think they need somebody like Boss Hog MicHELLe to tell them to eat Kale! ROFL! People have been eating kale for centuries before the woman was ever born...but the stupid and gullible tout this like it’s the greatest news since sliced bread!

Outstanding analysis, Dr. Hanson! As far as I know, this is the first time this hypothesis has been put forward and it fits the empirical evidence to a tee! Well done.

Yep. Completely unaware of how the REAL world works.

I love VDH’s writing, but on this one I think he is off base.

Obama reminds me more of Billy Mays (the infomercial king) than the Uninversity Administrator. Obama seems to think he could sell ice to the eskimos if he just gets in front of them enough times. He is so sure of his power of persuasion he thinks talking is a substitute for reasoned discussion. The problem with Barry is that just like with those infomercials, before long the public tunes you out, and uses the remote control to change the channel.

Obama, by his constant need to be in the public’s eye, has caused the public to tune him out and change the channel.

Obama’s moral preening and catering to elite opinion also suggests a similarity to Woodrow Wilson, a former president of Princeton.

I agree.

It was Obama’s world, and Hansen makes a powerful case that it has carried over.

So, how do you get rid of a University president?

1. Catch him making a politically incorrect statement and the liberal associates & staff will massacre him.

2. Tie him to a decision that injures any championship sports program and the hoi polloi boosters and alumni will massacre him.

Translating that to Obama.

1. Obama’s need to do nice-nice with the Afghan war that he ran on will scandalize his pacifist left, playing the role of liberal associates.

2. Our best-in-the-world military is the US parallel to a championship sports team. His damage to its missile defense, to its morale, and to its readiness can be turned against Obama, and the people will be in the role of alumni & boosters.

One of the best characterizations of this administration that I’ve seen. I’ve had to pass this link along to a lot of people this morning. Job well done, VDH.

Amazing how there’s not 5 people who remember him on campus.

Earlier, remember, Dr. Chu had scoffed from his perch that California farms were environmentally unsound and would soon disappear altogether, “We’re looking at a scenario where there’s no more agriculture in California.”

Could this be why the water is being cut off in the San Joaquin Valley? A deliberate attempt to destroy the farms?
