EDITORIAL: ACORN keeps falling--Vote fraud, then prostitution sponsorship, now tax avoidance
The Washington Times ^ | September 23, 2009 | Editorial

As scandals concerning the left-wing "community" group ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) continue to metastasize, the organization seems to think it can handpick allies to "investigate" its own transgressions. Fortunately for the rest of us, the growth of independent writers and researchers using modern communications means there are plenty of other outfits that can and will expose corruption.

Case in point: The Pelican Institute think tank in New Orleans keeps unearthing examples of federal and state tax liens against ACORN's national headquarters in the Crescent City. The institute's indefatigable research broke into national attention yesterday via a column by nationally syndicated writer Deroy Murdock in the New York Post. And freelance journalists and state attorneys general not aligned with ACORN are more than holding ACORN's collective feet to the fire. All of this makes a mockery of ACORN's self-selection of two "internal investigat[ors]" to report on where ACORN went wrong.

ACORN is trumpeting its choice of former Massachusetts Attorney General Scott Harshbarger for a supposedly "aggressive, thorough and far-reaching" probe. This is the same Mr. Harshbarger who once kissed up to power by giving "thanks to courageous, independent people like [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi" -- another ACORN ally -- and the same Mr. Harshbarger whose lust for the limelight is such that he prosecuted the now-infamous pseudo-sex scandal in 1986 known as the Amirault case, which observers as diverse as the Wall Street Journal and the leftist Nation magazine now say was a grossly error-filled miscarriage of justice.

Another "adviser" for the internal investigation will be former Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry G. Cisneros. He was last seen pleading guilty on perjury-related charges about hush payments to a mistress. Mr. Cisneros also has a long history of being an advocate for ACORN.

Next thing you know, they will be holding Islamic prayer meetings in their offices.

Which means, essentially, that they have become mosques.

It seems like everyday some association of, and or with criminals, or of criminal intent is produced with the Democrat Party. Seems to be no end to it all.

The alleged “Culture of Corruption” bestowed upon the Republican Party IMO is proven projection on the part of Pelousey & Co.

IMO there is a source in which criminal monetary support has been solicited, and they have responded. It would be a natural combination for the Communist element.

There’s no doubt in my mind many communists are involved in not only ACORN but other left wing groups of the Dem party.

IMHO, Harshbarger should be in prison for what he did to the Amiraults, and he did it simply to further his own career knowing full well they were innocent and that no crime of any kind had been committed. He is as low or lower than the guy who went after the Duke Lacrosse players.

It's not surprising that he ends up as an insider for leftist organizations. For him, and them, truth and justice mean nothing and they will do anything necessary to achieve their goals.

Thanks, I was not familiar with the Amirault case and made a note to look it up later. I will make it a point now, for sure.

ACORN -— now tax avoidance?

Why isn’t ACORN a not-for-profit 501C(3)????

REFERENCE Since 1989, at least $53 million federal tax dollars went to ACORN and its branches. Congress is moving to cutoff fundng after the video sting (but tax dollars continue to roll into ACORN). Congress should go further, and rescind ACORN'S tax-exempt status.

ITEM New Orleans is one of ACORN'S three national hdq located at 2609 Canal St. and 2610 Iberville St, New Orleans. (Washington, DC, and NYC are the other two).

ITEM Now Louisiana AG Bobby Caldwell has subpoenaed ACORN, former ACORN head Wade Rathke, and the group's bank, Whitney Bank.......seeking information back to 1998 on ACORN and some 361 tax-exempt and non-tax-exempt outfits in its universe.

ITEM At the Orleans Parish Clerk of Courts Office, a Sept. 3 IRS filing showed that "Elysian Fields Corp, Inc, (Alter Ego of ACORN)" skipped 5 quarterly withholding-tax payments -- for income, Soc/Sec and Medicare levies in 2005-08, and made no federal unemployment-tax payments for the fourth quarters of 2007 and 2008.

ITEM Citizens Consulting, Inc--ACORN's bookkeeping arm, details 66 withholding-tax payments that Citizens Consulting skipped in 2002-08, totaling more than $300,000 (online at pelicaninstitute.org.)

ITEM ACORN Housing Corp got HUD govt dollars supposedly to combat the "mortgage foreclosure crisis."

===========================

ACORN runs a cabal of tax-exempt, non-profits (which the IRS has designated as the locus classicus for money laundering and tax evasion). We need to put ACORN'S liberal tax-exempt, non-profit groups under the IRS microscope.

DO THIS: CONTACT THE FBI TIP PAGE http://tips.fbi.gov/ (you may remain anonymous) REPORT POSSIBLE CRIMES: Conspiracy to steal; collusion; government fraud; theft of public property; compromising official records, money laundering, tax evasion, computer trespass, US Postal and electronic fraud.

DO THIS: Contact the IRS Criminal Investigations Division (IRS-CI) (CALLERS CAN REMAIN ANONYMOUS)
>> To report suspected tax fraud activity, Tele toll-free 1-800-829-0433
>> To report suspected tax law violations, Tele toll-free 1-800-829-0433

MISSION STATEMENT The IRS-CI mission is to follow the money. No matter the source, all income earned, both legal and illegal, has the potential of becoming involved in crimes. The IRS-CI utilizes the broad authority of Title 26 and 31, tax, currency reporting and forfeiture and Title 18 money laundering, conspiracy and forfeiture to identify, investigate and prosecute the most significant tax, currency and money laundering offenders; and to pursue the assets of those offenders both domestically and internationally for criminal tax and asset forfeiture purposes.

Contact the IRS when you suspect :
> Abusive Tax-exempt Non-profit Schemes
> Unscrupulous Tax Return Preparers
> Frivolous filers/non-filers who challenge the constitutionality of the American tax system
> Income Tax Evasion
> Failure to File
> Filing False Returns
> Frivolous filers/non-filers who challenge the constitutionality of the American tax system
> Employment Tax Cases
> Claims for Fraudulent Refunds
> Illegal Source Financial Crimes (Money obtained illegally or through fraud)
> Narcotics Related Financial Crimes
> Money Laundering

The IRS is also interested in leadership and members of groups involved in tax, money laundering, or currency violations and persons engaged in fundraising activities using tax exempt organizations, and complex, extensive or convoluted financial transactions.

=======================================

ITEM --- ALSO FIGURING IN ALL OF THIS:

(1) Dale and Wade Radke, brothers who run ACORN clone, SEIU (Dale embezzled $1M from ACORN--no action was taken).

(2) The Apollo Alliance (exposed by Glenn Beck as the hidden hand that wrote Congress' trillion dollar stimulus bill). The AA is a coalition of labor, business, environmental, and community leaders working to catalyze a clean energy revolution.
